Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering Our Offsprings

For the past decade technology has been advancing rapidly, so quickly that we have to stop and ask ourselves, should we genetically engineer our offspring? There are many different opinions on whether or not people should or should not be engineering their offspring’s, although the results could be devastating, some people still think it is a good idea. There are many pros and cons to this processes results. Some people might think it is a better thing because then they can have the perfect child by making them athletically or mentally advanced. Others believe it is just wrong and having children should be a natural process, and that they are perfect the way they are. This idea for a lot of people is seen in a religious perspective, due to religion it could influence their decision on whether or not to genetically engineer their offspring. The main ideas for this concepts cons are, it will end up in overpopulation, it would just end up the same people over and over again, and finally another result could be the amounts of people and babies dying just trying to get it perfect. So many people that can’t have kids now can have kids so more and more kids will be genetically made. Also due to the growing rate of homosexuality, more and more kids will be genetically engineered. With overpopulation, it will lead to even more problems. Tina Stancheva mentioned in one of her articles “With overpopulation many other things are in danger of water supply and pollution, soil degradation, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity.” With overpopulation not only will it cause people not to have homes or a place to live, but it will also cause a massive loss in many places dealing with most everything. Another negative result to genetically engineering offspring would be that different would people would start ending up more and more alike, almost like a clone. Parents will want the “perfect” child, which would most likely be athletic and mentally advanced. With these two main characteristics that would make the “perfect” child, more and more children would have this trait. Even though they might be advanced in different sports or subjects, they will all start slowly coming together to be the same person. Another thing that could start happening over and over again would look. Everyone likes a handsome man or beautiful girl, so why not just genetically make them up? Kathy E. Hanna stated, “Human growth hormone (HGH), which before 1985 could be obtained only in limited quantities from cadaveric pituitary glands, now can be produced using recombinant DNA technology.” Now that it just keeps getting easier and easier Modifying offspring is more and more likely to happen which will cause children to become slowly more and more alike, if not having a clone. An awful thing that could happen with this going on would be the amounts of people and babies that would be suffered to get this process perfect. Many people will end up with disabilities, or major illnesses are in danger, if not end up passing away. This could be a major problem depending on how quickly the scientist and specialist can figure it out to where it is perfect. Laurence O.
