Peachy and Dan, two ex soldiers and Englishmen, essentially wake up one morning and decide that they are to become kings of Kafiristan. By simply acquiring 20 martini rifles, they go on to train and conquer villages in Kafiristan, until they ultimately become both literal and divine rulers of the country. By simply employing their confidence with their own sense of “self” they manage to convince themselves that what they are about to do is their calling and their duty.
