SPC Jones, this is your Promotion Counseling for the upcoming month of September.

At this time, I am unable to request you for promotion to SGT. It is not because you are unfit to be a Non-Commissioned Officer, but same tasks that need to be completed in order for you to be ready and be promoted quickly. As you may already know, per AR 600-8-19, you are within your Primary Zone for promotion from SPC to SGT. You only need 34 months TIS/ 6 months TIG to be recommended for a promotion board appearance and 36 months TIS/ 8 months TIG to be recommended to the rank of SGT from SPC. At this time, you have 37 months TIS/ 13 months time in grade.

As stated before, it is not that you are unfit for promotion to be an NCO, there are small tasks you

Gladwell makes a very interesting argument in chapter 7 of Outliers (2008). He claims that the flight crew and their inability to communicate effectively is the number one cause of plane crashes. He supports his argument with studies on different cultures and their ability to communicate with persons in authority or of higher ranks. This inability for the “second in command” to communicate with the pilot, leads to information not being heard or in some cases said, and can have a fatal outcome.…

I agree with you that practicum is the beginning of a life of service that will benefit those who need help the most. Practicum is important because practicum is the first step to becoming a licensed counselor and the first step to living a life of service to others. The counseling practicum fosters the synthesis of academic learning with practical, hands-on experience. The practicum also provides the student with preparation for further training in professional counseling. Practicum is a time for application of the attitudes, learning, and skills that the student has acquired in his or her classroom experience.…

This is a rebuttal to the nonrec I received last Tuesday. The nonrec states that I do not meet my OIC's physical fitness standards in order to be promoted. It does not exactly state it, but I know that he is referring to my 2nd class PFT. His "standard" for promotion as stated by the corporals a couple weeks ago while passing word was that anyone that does not have a 1st class PFT or fails the rifle range will not be looked at for promotion. Although, this standard is now easily achievable for me, it was not the standard for recommendation when I ran my PFT back in April.…

Respect to a NCO in the U.S. Army The U.S. Army's Non-Commisioned Officer (NCO) Corps was formed at the very begining of the American Army. In 1775, the NCO Corps was made along with the forming of the Continental Army. The American NCO did not copy their British counterparts; however, blended traditions of the French, British, and Prussian armies. During the Revelution, there was a lack of NCO duties or responsibilities.…

Leadership Counseling I would like to take this time and speak on something that is often omitted completely and when it is performed it is not done so correctly. It is the subject of counseling. I have been in many organizations and assigned to many units. Challenge of Command Summaries Chapter 1: Chapter 1 of Nye’s book “The Challenge of Command” begins with an explanation that this is an important book for specialists and junior officers to read so that they may thoroughly understand the challenges that are faced by positions of command. Nye emphasizes the importance of continuation of learning, and laments that with many soldiers learning ceases at a certain point in their career. Nye criticizes the mental process of certain aspects of training, and argues that the current emphasis is on what officer does, while it should be what officer should be. Nye goes on to explain some if the motivational theory propositions, some supported by authors, while others, by social scientists. He is also…

As a fellow active duty officer of the department, I would strongly disagree and protest the validity of only officers holding a four-year college degree to be eligible for promotion to Sergeant. Although it is understandable that administrators want to move towards a command staff where those officers rising through the ranks are deemed professional; holding degrees in areas relevant to the performance of the duties of law enforcement and its operation, the experiences and life skills of those officers not possessing a degree is perhaps more effective in the daily performance of routine duties on the street. As suggested by Doener (2012) in “Introduction to Law Enforcement, An Insider's View”, the evidence of college-educated officers offering…

The Lieutenant will hold higher rank, have generally higher pay grade, as well as be put in charge of protecting the lives of the NCO’s plus the junior enlisted. A 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army is known as a "Butter Bar", a reference to the gold bar rank insignia worn on the uniform. “A commissioned officer in the U.S. Army holds a commission from the President of the United States and can command those under him, both officers and enlisted personnel.…
