Privilege In America

Intersectionality, the interconnected nature of social categorization such as gender, race and status as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination. Today, privilege is taken for granted and is not appreciated, especially if one is living in either Canada, United States or Europe. Privilege is worked by when those countries have a stable government and the people have the advantage of having an education, medical care and sufficient living. The effects of those who are privileged may not realize for those who don’t, and are unable to relate their environment. Those who are at the top of the hierarchy tend to want more of what they already have and forget to give back, much of the media releases negative messages about these oppressed groups, brainwashing people with these headlines making them turn against those in help. It is illegal yet people allow it and take it. It is definitely unfair and unethical to those who are unable to stand up for themselves because they are the minority, feeling as though they have no power. An ideal way to change these oppressed groups for the better is to for people to stand up for those who cannot and put in more laws and rules for those who discriminate. The people in general are responsible for what is happening in our society, everywhere in the media people support acceptance and diversity, however, when someone is discriminated in public, hardly anyone would defend the person being victimized. Even though there is a law for discrimination, it happens everyday all around the world. Not enough people are taking charge of one of the most common problems in the world. The most striking thing I have learned in this activity is that there is a lot of other cultures, countries and groups in the world that are not privileged as I am and many other people. Many children and families do not get an education nor medical care, which I believe is what every human should receive, no matter their race, religion or gender. Also not enough people are helping those in need, especially the prevailed helping the non-privileged.
