Pressure Ulcer Prevention Case Study

I want to talk about the nurses’ role in the prevention of pressure ulcer, if a patient’s mobility is compromised and pressure areas are not relieved, this can lead to impaired circulation and ulcer formation. Pressure ulcers can happen in less than 12 or 24 hours depending on the patient’s nutritional status and comorbidities. (Reddy et al, 2006). Preventing and treating pressure ulcers requires good nursing interventions and persistent adherence to evidence based practice (EBP) of Turn and Reposition (TARP) every 2 or 4 hours which has been researched and proven as best practice. The question is ‘Does Turning and repositioning alone as an intervention used by nurses for patients with pressure ulcers, or at risk for pressure ulcers have optimal outcomes than addition of pressure reducing devices to the TARP’.
