Stated in the CNN Wire Service, “75% of the world 's opioid prescription drugs are prescribed and swallowed up in a country that makes up less than 5% of the world 's population, leading to the most common cause of preventable death in America today.” This statistically is agonizing to read. How could a nation comprised of only 5% of the world’s population possibly use 75% of the worlds opioids? This is the main reason why doctors and medical professionals need to be regulated. All this proves is that doctors simply don’t care about the overall health of patient and simply want to treat them and move on to the next and never have to worry about them again. Drugs that aren’t regulated closely can lead to overdose, addiction, and the use of illegal drugs. That is why regulation needs to be pushed to allow reform. It’ll allow the government to safely watch the drugs without the mistreatment by patients and medical professionals. To have this reform would mean the end of the drug abuse hike.
