In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses symbolism to show that power and leadership can either benefit a civilization or destroy them. “We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us-” (page 16) Having the conch is benefiting them by being able to bring them all together to start a civilization. “Piggy was was dead, and the conch smashed to powder.”(page 186) When the conch got destroyed it was showing how their group was ruined along with it. The conch is used as symbolism to show power and leadership by calling group meetings to benefit a civilization, and once that was destroyed so was the civilization.
