Poverty In Haiti

After taking both of Haiti’s issues into context, poverty is crowned as Haiti’s most pressing problem. Poverty branches out into many other issues that are disastrous to Haiti’s population. Some of these issues are a lack of health care and many children not being properly developed due to the lack of drinking water and food. They are missing out on an education because they often have to spend hours walking miles to obtain water. “Only half of all children are enrolled in primary school. This is because 92% of schools are private, leaving most families unable to pay school fees. CARE was created in 1945 and has grown to provide assistance in 94 countries, supporting nearly 1,000 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian-aid projects. The reasons why CARE is the most suitable N.G.O. in Haiti is because they combat an umbrella of issues facing Haiti. They provide homes, school supplies, and psycho-social support to children of displaced families (Haiti Fact Sheet). “CARE has also integrated WASH needs with its Education program, providing safe water and hygiene promotion to schools” (Haiti Fact Sheet). The Village Savings and Loan project was developed by CARE in an effort to aid women and girls so they may “achieve greater financial independence and assess to business development services” (Haiti Fact Sheet). These microloans allow women to start small businesses that can produce enough income to support their families. Microloans also ease the transition back into society for young women who were rescues out of sex trafficking. Without the help of CARE, Haiti would not be in the progress of restoration. Haiti economy would be on the brink of collapse and its population life expectancy would be at an all-time low.
