It all went back even before 1970, when the team entered the league, as far back as 1955. Harry Glickman proposed the team in Portland, so he persuaded the NBA to make this happen. 15 years later, in 1970, rights were granted for a team in Portland. Glickman raised lots of money for the admission taxes and selected the team name based on suggestions. It was officially named Portland Trail Blazers on March 13th, 1970. The team slowly formed and coaches were chosen. Until the year of 1995, they sold out on 814 straight games and moved into a larger facility known as the Moda Center. From 1980 to 1990, the Blazers almost always qualified for the playoffs.

As well as Nolan Smith from Duke University, the Blazers drafted Jon Diebler from Ohio State University, in mid-2011. There was a lockout of 161 days, which didn’t let the Blazers play. Terry Stotts is the team’s current head coach, who got hired in 2012. A couple of years later, the Blazers surprisingly advanced to the semifinals for the first time in 14 years. But, they lost against the San Antonio Spurs. After losing players and more injuries, the Blazers drafted three new starters. In January, they got a total of more than 1700 points by scoring 677 field goals. Though the Blazers only made 1300 points in December, they only had 13 games that month instead of January’s 16 games. So far, they have had 32 wins and 26 losses in the 2017-18 season. Jusuf Nurkic gets an average of 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. Shabazz Napier leads in steals, making about 1 every game. Even though Portland has only won one NBA championship, they have advanced to the finals three times. The team has had Hall of Fame players play for them, like Lenny Wilkins, Bill Walton, and 4 others. Coaches and players part of the Blazers have earned MVP awards, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and All-Star Game records. 15 Blazers have been selected in the All-Star Game, and many more have participated in the weekend competitions.
