When the majority of the population is jobless, politicians would try to understand and appeal to them, to be effective in the elections. In the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s Irish and Italian employers began to show more bargaining towards wages of the workers(Culpepper 2008 p.2-3). This shows how the employers were willing to bargain the worker's wages in order to keep them from leaving, in other words, this shows how politicians would also try to appeal to the jobless to gain their votes. This can also be viewed as how in order for the employer to not have every single one of his employees to quit their jobs in order to not go out of business. So, this would show how a politician would not try to go against the majority, which would be the jobless, to not have a chance of not being elected to power.
