This idea of poetry having a sense of mystery actually stems from an article he released when he was twenty called Heresies Artistiques: L'Art pour Tous. Here he states that if something wants to remain sacred should be covered in mystery in order to protect it. And when one wants to share such sacred knowledge, simply use the art of poetry to allow the common people to understand the concept. This idea of poetry is something I can agree with, but have separate doubts to the. The aspect that I do agree with Mallarmé is that the mysterious parts of existence does require some form to exist to be understood. The idea of human existence and concepts that branch from it can overwhelm the thoughts of mortals and most likely exist in a separate, spiritual plane for the safety of humans. As such raw knowledge of such a mysterious answer could possibly drive a man mad, poetry works as a conduit to translate that mass of knowledge as inspirational works. My issue however is the idea of poetry and its connection to man. While those can be touch by the spirits of nature, I see poetry as manmade art form with spiritual influences.
