TPB has generated in various fields of research particular, health-related behavior (Knabe, 2009). In web page of Ajzen (2015), he collected a scholarly paper that used his theory, such as a research, articles, dissertations, and so forth. A number of those papers, updated in August 21, 2015, are 1430 papers. For example, they are 122 papers relevant to exercise behavior, 54 papers of behavioral change, 53 papers about prediction behavior, 53 papers focus on condom use and 41 papers in smoking problem. Moreover, the citation of the theory of planned behavior by Ajzen, 1991 in Google scholar showed 34838 …show more content…
Weaknesses of TPB
1. This theory had a poor predictive power in behavioral intention and perceived behavioral control (Ajzen, 2011, & Werner, 2004).
2. Bias, irrationality, and inaccurate information had an effect on behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, and control beliefs (Ajzen, 2011).
3. Affect and emotion could interrupt participants’ intention and behavior (Ajzen, 2011, Knabe, 2009).
4. Past behavior could be an indirect factor that impinges on intention (Ajzen, 2011).
5. TPB did not set assumption that people had a critical thinking before they performed their behavioral intention (Ajzen, 2011, Knabe, 2009).
6. This Theory did not consider background factors of people that might affect their behavior (Ajzen, 2011).
Strengths of TPB
1. TPB had a sufficiency assumption to predict behavior that is a result of intention and perceived behavioral control, which had extremely empirical studies to support this theory (Ajzen, 2011).
2. This theory is useful for applying in diversity of behaviors, such as health communications, environmental concerns, risk communication, mass transit use, and technology adoption (Knabe,
