Sensorimotor is the first stage where infants are only focused on the environment around them. They focus mainly on the things they see, things that are being done and the phsyical interactions. Infants are constantly experimenting things by shaking, throwing, putting things in their mouths. Preoperational is the second stage where young children use symbolism to think about many things. Some of the factors that cause eating disorders is low self-esteem, wating to be perfect, or trouble in relationships. Eating disorders is also triggered by society. Typically, western culture creates a standard image that makes young adults change into the ideal image that society renders. This leads to serious health problems such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Substance abuse is caused by peer pressure, emotional stress, and low self-esteem. Substance users do poorly in school, lack focus, get involed in car accidents which in the end results in injuries or death. Teenage preganancy is primarily caused by peer pressure and mixed harmonal changes. Young adults experience mixed messages about their sexual feelings. They are pressured into having sex before they are ready or decide. Another cause would be the lack of knowledge about reproduction. This compels them to do it wthout any given thought and most likely results in pregnancy. Juvenile delinquency is caused by feelings of detachment, physical punishment at home, lack of affection, low self-esteem, and behavioural problems taht present at an early age. Early behavorial problems such as belligeernce and persistent wrongdoing is correlated to juvenile delinquency. One of the most important causes would be pyschological abuse by parents.
