The sport I chose to do my essay on was cheerleading, because of the physics shown all throughout the sport. There are stunts, tumbling, and jumps. Cheerleading is a sport that involves all these tasks and much more. Cheerleading consists of many concepts of physics, such as Gravity, Newton Laws of Motion, momentum, torque, potential and kinetic energy, velocity, force, gravitational acceleration, free fall. I will explain the definitions of each concept, so readers will be able to get real meaning as to why these concepts consist of cheer leading.
Gravity is the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass. For most purposes Newton's laws of gravity apply, with minor modifications to take the general theory of relativity into account. Therefore, cheerleading involves the force of gravity, because of the stunts, the tumbling, and the jumps. Anything you drop accelerates at the same rate …show more content…
A cheerleader must have some sort of motion when beginning and be able to change direction by pushing off the floor. Newton’s Second Law of Motion defines the relationship between acceleration, force, and mass. The more force pushed from the ground the higher the cheerleader will go into the air and the easier the cheerleader will land on her bases. Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that any time a force acts from one object to another, there is equal force acting back on the original object. If you pull on a rope, therefore, the rope is pulling back on you as well. In addition, the third law can be demonstrated when you throw the cheerleader in the air and she has to come down into her bases, arms, or when the cheerleader is tumbling. In these examples they are pushing themselves off the ground with more
