Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, and Occupational Therapists all have different tasks. Physical Therapists (PT) are highly trained professionals that help patients reduce pain and improve movements (“Who are Physical Therapists?”). They analyze people of any age, even infants (“Role of a Physical Therapist.”). Physical Therapists examine each patient 's and thinks of a plan for him or her. They use different techniques to help improve movements, diminish pain, bring back muscle functions and try to avoid disability. Usually they work in hospitals, clinics, schools, or nursing homes. Physical Therapists have the most detailed education to help people improve their motion. Now a days many people are in need of Physical Therapy (“Who are Physical Therapists?”). There are at least 750,000 people who need Physical Therapy. When a Physical Therapist sees a new patient, they do an assessment on them to see what their strengths and weaknesses are (“Role of a Physical Therapist”). Athletic Trainers have different tasks than Physical Therapists. “Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions” (“Athletic Training”). Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists can work with the same patients, but depends on what type of insurance they have. Physical Therapists are not as interesting as Occupational therapists (OTs) because “Physical Therapists deals with pain, strength, joint range of motion, endurance, and gross motor functioning, whereas Occupational Therapists deals more with fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, cognitive skills, and sensory processing deficits” (“Occupational Therapy”). …show more content…
Just like Physical Therapy, in Occupational Therapy, a new patient has to have an assessment to see their strengths and weaknesses. Occupational Therapists help individuals improve their daily tasks of their everyday living. One of their main goals for Occupational Therapy is for their patients to be able to do the same things as everyone else. Since the patient always comes first, a Physical Therapist’s main priority is to make sure the patient is as comfortable as possible. Just like Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists work with all ages of people. They help children with certain disabilities, cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills. Occupational Therapists work with infants who might have development delays. It is better for the infant if the they start therapy in the first few months of being born. If they don’t therapy may not work on them because they are already growing. Some Occupational Therapists work with children in schools. They go in their classroom to see the child 's abilities in the classroom settings. Some children have problems with focusing in their classroom. Occupational Therapists tries to find a way to help the child, so they can be able to participate in the school 's classroom (Free Encyclopedia). Also, they help others with injuries, and help adults with life changes (“About Occupational Therapy”). If a patient has a long-lasting disability, Occupational Therapists use special equipment, such as wheelchairs and orthotics to help make the patients everyday lives easier. Some of these disabilities include spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, or muscular dystrophy. Sometimes, Occupational Therapists create certain equipment that is needed at home or at work for their patients (Free Encyclopedia). I will be happy doing Occupational Therapy; I will make good money, and I will work with special needs children. Occupational Therapy is more interesting to me than Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. There are different types of Physical Therapists. PT aide, PT assistant, and a PT. PT aids usually make minimum wage. Sometimes they make more, but depends on where they work. A PT assistant works as a PT, but makes less money. Their average salary is about $49,690. A regular Physical Therapist average salary is 79,860. Their salary grows every year that they are a Physical Therapist. Also, their salary can vary on where they work (“How Long Does”). I like Physical Therapists more than Athletic Trainers because of the huge difference
