The methods in using physical restraints are the utilization of physical holds by qualified persons with the goal of stopping a dangerous behavior. According to the Behavior support policy at Beech Brook physical restraints should be used as a last resort and only when verbal direction and/or non-verbal prompts have been ineffective (Beech Brook, 2015). Ethical Issue-Family Presence in the ER Definition Family presence is an important consideration in the health care setting, specifically in the emergency room. Family presence is the ability of a family member to have contact with a patient in a health care area during resuscitation or emergency procedures (İşlekdemir & Kaya, 2016, p. 39). Resuscitation is the process health care providers utilize to sustain life and prevent further deterioration (Leske, McAndrew & Brasel, 2013, p. 78). Family is defined by the patient and can include friends, relatives, or significant others. Family can include anyone that has a serious relationship with the patient and can provide support (AACN, 2016, p. 11).…

2).Moreover, horizontal violence has an impact on patient care and would likely be the cause of errors and mistakes (Anderson,2011,p.28) and would be the reason for ineffective communication , thereby, compromising the patient’s safety (Granstra,2015,p.254). I also believe that as graduate registered nurses, they should be familiar with professional boundaries and their scope of practice , to avoid role confusion that results to fertile background for bullying, harassment and miscommunication regarding division of responsibilities (Eagar, Cowin,Gregory,& Firtko, 2010,p. 94).For me, I have often wondered how should I respond to situations where lateral violence is present. I also thought about what appropriate actions should I take if this happens to me or to my co-workers. From the discussions and the strategies we developed in the toolkit (Appendix A) .…

Research has shown that physical restraints do not preserve older adults' dignity when HCPs use this method for safety. According to Sanders (2009), “Dignity and respect are at the foundation of good care and effective treatment planning and are guiding service principles. The use of physical restraints is contrary to treatment with dignity and respect” (p. 216). HCPs are responsible for maintaining and advocating for the dignity of patients, such as older adults. However, when HCP becomes accustomed to using physical restraints every single day, at times they are forgetting and ignoring the importance of maintaining the dignity of a person.…
There are many various reasons as to why one would be in a Nursing home and because of all the reasons it can lead to causing falls. Many of these falls can lead to injury and even death; there are different measures used and put in place to try to prevent this. Some of the reasons that these falls occur are due to muscle weakness, walking and gait problems, environmental hazards, such as poor lighting or wet floors, medications, and transferring with improper equipment and foot wear (CDC, 2015). According to the CDC in a 100 bed facility, there are reports from 100 to 200 falls per year and still more that go unreported. A lot of people fall victim to depression because they cannot let go of their past. Sometimes young men and women cannot move ahead with their life because of infidelity and failed relationships. What they fail to understand is that we cannot change our past, but we can change our present and build a happy future. If you have faced something similar in life, don’t hold onto your anger and resentment. Imagine yourself being bound by thick iron shackles and you are unable to free yourself because you are not thinking about the solution but focusing only on the shackles.…
A Nurse’s Role Providing patient safety is not the of a nurse. The nurse must also show commitment, from the code of ethics, to provide competent and ethical care.
