LOOKING AFTER YOUR HEART Unfortunately, coronary heart disease (CHD) is the biggest killer in the UK, with around 73,000 deaths per year according to nhs.uk. CHD basically refers to the narrowing or blocking of your arteries which supply the blood to the heart and is caused by a gradual build-up of fatty deposits inside your arteries. Certain people will be more at risk of developing the disease than others: • If you have a family history of heart disease – for example, if a parent or a sibling had CHD or a stroke (Under 65 for women or under 55 for men). • Age-related – the likelihood of CHD increases as you grow older • Men are more prone to developing CHD at an earlier age than women Given these factors, it would be sensible to make a…
Richards can take is to start a wellness program at the school. The school needs to focus more time on their physical education program. Since a lot of the students at this school live in a rural setting, it is hard to have extracurricular activities that promote exercise (Powell, 2015). The goal of the physical education program should be to teach the students about the benefits of exercise and teach them fun activities they can do at home to get fit.…
Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…
I. Definition of Behavior and Rationale for Increasing this Behavior Exercising has always been something that I struggled with. Having a slender body type is partial blame for my lack if self-motivation when it comes to exercising. Throughout my life I’ve always been the smallest in terms of body weight when compared to my other siblings. I used that as an excuse and I told myself that I didn’t need to work out because I have a good Body Mass Index.…

While there are many things that distinguish people from one another, such as politics and religion, there is one common characteristic that we indisputably all share: our dependence on movement. Movement brings us together and enables our world to function. Every day, billions of people depend on their ability to move in order to do the most demanding endeavors, as well as common, simple tasks such as cooking and cleaning. For this reason, the loss of mobility and movement, which often accompanies injury or disease, can feel debilitating and has the potential to challenge a person’s identity. While it is easy to forget the simple luxuries that come with mobility, it is hard to ignore the physical challenges posed by disease and illness.…
Learning Extension Project-Create a Product “If students learn better on their feet…then let’s get them out of their seat!” (Lengel, 2010, p. I) Educational research proves that using movement in teaching not only enhances curriculum, but more importantly engages student learning, stimulates the brain for learning, and improves brain function. Movement allows students to refocus and helps strengthen their ability to pay attention. Students and teachers are both responsible to maintain focus on a task.…
The health goal that I decided to accomplish was to run a mile in 8 minutes or less by December 1st. This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed. It was a weak point that I want to address because when sprinting, I could not maintain my speed for long periods of time or distances. In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it. I made two action plans to alternate between for each week from research on what was an effective workout to increase my cardiovascular endurance.…

As I continue my fitness journey in Zumba toning, there are areas of progression as well as areas for improvement. Currently, we are in the eighth week of the semester, but I have been enrolled in Zumba toning for only five weeks. Also, I was absent for two sessions and one session was cancelled. Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to measure my progress in some areas due to these circumstances. My three goals that I set for myself this semester was to maintain a balanced, nutritious diet, to increase my energy levels and to tone specifically my legs and arms.…

This class was actually very interesting and really helped me to open my eyes to the ways in which I have been not focusing on my physical health. When it comes to my present activity level, a lot has changed from the beginning of this class. I have to say that before this class I never made physical activity a priority in my day. I counted walking to class as a form of physical activity, which it was, but not enough. I am a lazy person and would rather be laying around watching Netflix than going to the gym.…
