We commonly treat patients who have teeth that break around fillings or have been knocked out. When your tooth is knocked out, time is of the essence. Follow these steps to increase your chances of saving the tooth:
• Call our office immediately at 757-932-6856 to schedule your appointment.
• If the tooth is detached and completely knocked out, and you can find it, pick up the tooth by the crown – NEVER the root – and rinse it in warm water.
• If possible, stick the tooth back into the socket or stick it under the tongue. Your tooth is more likely to be successfully reimplanted if it stays in its natural environment.
• If you cannot place the tooth into the socket, stick it in water, milk, or even your own saliva. The key is to keep the tooth from drying out.
