As teachers we all want students to learn to the best of their ability and retain as much of the information we are teaching them as possible. However, how can we help students learn to the best of their ability if they forget a lot of the content over the summer months? Most students don’t do much over the summer that will help their education. Students spend most of the summer sitting around, playing, or working and a lot of times students leave school at the end of the semester and don’t even glance back at it over the course of the summer. Most of the students who take three months off from school and they are bored by the end of the summer. Even worse than the students being bored the dread going back to school because they don’t feel like they remember anything. There is much research showing that year round schooling is better for students. Students need constant instruction and they also need to continue their education but in past experience’s when you take students who are of age and don’t want to go to school then you let them off for …show more content…
“When asked these two questions: How many of your students helped to harvest crops last year and how many mothers of students in your classroom stayed at home? Most teachers would probably answer the above questions by saying “none” or “very few”.” (Warrick-Harris 1995) As you can see most students don’t help with agriculture in the summer months anymore and moms don’t stay home with them all summer. Kids are usually staying home alone or they are in a child care facility all summer. Children who stay home all summer get very few social interactions and they tend not to be able to get any kid of education outside of school. These children will benefit from having school year round with intermitted breaks that allow for a break but not long enough for them to get bored or lose a lot that they have learned
