An organism that is on the endangered species list is the snow leopard, also known scientifically as ‘panthera uncia’. It is endangered for various reasons. In traditional Asian medicine, big cats’ bones, skin, and organs are extremely valuable. Most hunters prefer tigers for this, but they’re already so rare that snow leopards are a decent substitute. Poachers can make great amounts of money off of these animals, when everyone else in these areas are already quite poor, so it’s easy for them to capture and kill as many big cats as they can.
