Eating Less Meat Persuasive Essay

The chances of earth’s environment declining will only increase if humanity continues its meat eating habits, due to the global effects that raising livestock cause to the climate. It has recently been made known to the public on a larger scale, that one of the greatest factors to the ozone layer being damaged is from raising livestock. It is up to us to fix this issue before it makes the world an unlivable place. We have to do this now instead of later. Recently, a group of environmentalists wanted to help save the planet, so they did as much research as they could to find the real issues. They found out that limiting the number of showers people take and driving your car less were not near as effective at saving the planet compared to eating less meat. There are many other environmentalists who share similar view points in this subject matter. Anyone who is interested in saving the planet should be aware of the benefits to the planet from going vegan. They showed how much water is required to raise livestock, it takes 264 gallons of water for just one pound of beef. It only …show more content…
It makes the most sense to begin this switch immediately due to the negative effects of raising livestock. The most logical and ethical way of solving this problem is to go vegan. There are many reasons to go vegan, but I believe the most important reason is to save our planet’s environment. By no means am I saying that everyone should go strictly vegan. However, if everyone would at least participate in some way to reducing the amount of animal by-products they consume, it will safeguard our future existence. If it’s too much to ask for someone to completely eliminate animal products from their diet, they should at least try to limit themselves. Remember, our planet is not invincible and we need to realize the consequences of our

It is personal choice that matters, if these choices are made steadily. I agree with the assertion of the author of “Eating animals”. While some people believes that the world is full of many other problems and this issue is not significant enough to be the first on the “Main problems of the mankind” Agenda, I believe the thinking of adopting (even partly) the not consuming factory farmed meat lifestyle is…

When it comes to Global warming, being a vegetarian should be turned to as a first resort rather than going more toward the Prius, a car that has been made to cut vehicle emissions in half in an attempt to fight against global warming. Kathy Freston’s article “Vegetarian is the new Prius” caught my eye immediately when choosing an essay for the very fact that, I want Toyota Prius, and also because I’ve tried going vegetarian. Although I see nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, the lifestyle just didn’t work for me. I do to a certain extent agree with her argument because ever since I took ecology in high school, the environment has been very important to me, and I do what I can to help preserve it. Freston wrote that President Herbert Hoover promised a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage”.…

Over the past century we have seen not only our population skyrocket, but also our technological capacity increase exponentially. My worldview, primarily eco-centric, is focused on the incredible potential of technology to create sustainable harmony between humanity and the earth. We have gotten to a point in our evolution where it will be impossible to revert to our pre-industrial state. Our resources are limited and should not be wasted, this traces back to the fundamental property of the universe: energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be converted between forms. So much matter is wasted and converted into a state in which it is impossible to recover it, and instead of draining the earth we should be focusing on developing inexhaustible…

This film offers the opposition of this topic virtually no time to give their side of the story. I believe that to have a successful argument, the audience should have the right to hear both sides of the story before they start making their own ideas. Connie Diekman, food expert, was only given a small opportunity to explain why eating animal meat is important. This film also does not offer any negatives that could come from switching diets. They fail to mention how prices of these organic food might make it impossible for certain families and students to make the switch.…

The Inbetween of Meat Eating The matter of eating meat is a heavily debated topic, especially with the threats of climate change, population change, and animal cruelty gaining popularity. Piper asserts that a vegan diet leads to the death of many animals than that of a non-vegan. He claimed that tractors kill animals such as mice, moles, rabbits and other rodents or have their habitats destroyed (par. 3). According to Piper vegans should consider the reducing their plant 's consumption and “eat more cow” that graze on pasture (par, 4). Animals that produce meat produce more calories and proteins per head than plants making them environmentally friendly contrary to what vegans claimed that they are harmful to the environment. Animals require pasture that is part of biodiversity and by growing pasture; human beings are taking care of the…

Why do we feel that as humans, we are entitled to kill and consume any animal we want because we are 'on top of the food chain? Why do we perpetuate the myth that we /need/ to eat other animals to survive as a species? In order to create a more ethical, personal and environmentally sustainable future we must end, or at least lower, meat consumption. Australia, next to the US, has the highest rate of meat consumption with the population consuming 115 kilograms per person per year. This rate of meat consumption is seriously effecting the Australian environment, increasing our risk of disease and promoting the animal abuse that happens within the meat industry.…

Being vegetarian is a big argument in our society. Being vegetarian is to stop eating or cook almost anything that comes from animals. So you are not allowed to eat any kind of meat, fish or milk, but you are still allowed to eat eggs and honey. Don’t confuse being vegetarians with being vegan. Vegan is a higher degree of vegetarianism.…

It’s no question that it is more efficient to produce plants than it is to produce meat. “Leading scientists have warned us that food shortages will become escalade over the next 40 years unless the world 's population switches almost completely to a vegetarian diet” (Walsh 57). Not only is it not cost efficient, but the consuming meat has been linked to multiple diseases and obvious health risks. A plant based diet would improve the obesity crisis America currently suffers through. The number of positive outcomes a meat free diet can introduce to upbringing generations is endless.…

If animal agriculture had this much of an impact over one hundred and seventy years ago, imagine the magnitude of impact it is having today. To provide land for the livestock, feed crops, slaughterhouses, and grazing fields, animal agriculture uses nearly seventeen million square miles of land. That’s about thirty percent of the earth’s land mass. Twenty-six percent of all ice-free land, seventy percent of all farming land, and thirty percent of all plant land surface is dedicated to animal agriculture. Vegetarian diets only require a portion of the thirty-three percent of farming land that animal agriculture uses, since one acre of plants can feed more humans than it can animals.…

With that, McKibben believes that we should stop eating meat. When people stop eating meat they don’t get all the nutrients they will need in their diet. In the essay “The Only Way to Have a Cow”, a Chicago study stated that going vegan is fifty percent more efficient in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions rather than switching to a hybrid car. Going vegan means that you simply stop eating meat and only eat a plant base diet.…

In addition to that, there need to be new rules and regulations set to cut back on the animal agriculture industry for the sake of the environment. This is a big problem, but we cannot rely solely on the public to initiate change for a number of reasons. A few being that some people are climate change deniers, some are simply not interested in environmental matters, and others do not want to reduce their habit of animal exploitation. That’s why we need to appeal to the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Department of Agriculture to implement laws that will start off by gradually reduce the amount of factory farms that are in existence and eventually putting an end to all forms of animal exploitation Humans are creatures of habit and in addition to that they don’t like to change; and often when they do change they are very slow at it.
