According to New York Times, in the United States, the death rate is about 31 million per year by handguns - the equivalent of 27 people shot dead each day. Based on a survey on American households by Harvard’s Injury Control Research Center (ICRC), found that in states where guns are more prevalent- as in Wyoming where 63% of households reported owning guns- rates of suicide were higher. The inverse is also true: where guns ownership was less common suicide rates were also lower. Again, if these guns were not available for private ownership in the first place, there would be less attacks because the access to handguns would be limited and the numbers of suicides and homicides would decrease. How would you feel if you come home to find out that your loved one had committed suicide. How would you feel if you knew that if that person did not have access to a handgun, you would have had more time to stop them and convince them to rethink their decision? How would you feel if you find out that your loved one has been one of the victims of a homicide attack at the local park? According to BBC, there were 372 mass shootings in the United States in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding around 1,870. Also, there were sixty four school shootings in the same year. We should not come to a point in our society where violence is the only solution for problems is violence. We should not come to a point in society where we are endangered by simple human interactions. We should not come to a point in society where one is shot just for having a difference in opinion. Limiting access to handguns would decrease the number of mass shootings in the United States because contributing to a violent society would make any angel turn into a devil. With handguns available to everyone, people have been hating each other rather than befriending each other. With handguns available to everyone, people have started fearing attending school because of school shootings. With handguns available to everybody, people have started relying on the guns to settle their problems rather than settling them in a more peaceful manner. Many celebrities also agree handguns to be banned. These celebrities are, but not limited to, Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Bacon, Shania Twain, Danny Devito, Matt Damon, Sylvester Stallone, and George Clooney.
