Why We Should Legalize Marijuana

Release the Green Marijuana is an herb mistaken for a drug and is looked upon as dangerous, when in fact it is anything but dangerous. Because of people’s ignorance and lack of knowledge within marijuana, it has become illegal for all the wrong reasons and should greatly be reconsidered for legalization. There is so much wrong being said about marijuana. However, legalizing marijuana would benefit the country in many ways, such as; taxing marijuana, healing sickness, and the reasoning is not legitimate. Marijuana is too expensive for the justice system, it should definitely be taxed to support beneficial government programs. The government spends billions of dollars every year to chase peaceful people who like to get high. Law enforcement officers have more important responsibilities than arresting more than 800,000 individuals a year because of their personal problems. People go to jail or prison and taxpayers have to handle the bill, we could save a lot of money every year as a nation if we stop arresting all these people just for one account of weed it is crowding up the jail space. Moreover, it is wasting the judges, attorneys, and correction officers’ time, which is keeping them away from more violent crimes. Did you know that the United States constitution was written on hemp paper? Marijuana is a very resourceful plant, seeds can be used as a food source because it contains many fats. The seeds has also been used as a cheap source of fuel. The flowers have been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times and also have been known to help people with cancer. Marijuana should not be classified as a “drug” it is obviously a plant. Marijuana doesn’t cause cancer, it has cancer fighting properties and it doesn’t cause depression, but rather it is a great treatment for depression. God put marijuana here for a reason, Genesis 1:29 said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of the earth, and every tree, which is the fruit of the tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” So much for separation of church and state. People need to understand that Americans have been brainwashed into thinking that marijuana is bad. Marijuana is actually God’s gift to earth. There are currently no good reasons. People should be able to live their lives the way they want and make choices for themselves. People are being classified as criminals for smoking a natural plant that grows from the ground. The government is punishing people who have not hurt anyone. We cannot succeed in stopping people who are going to do what they want, regardless of every effort to stop one. Prohibitions against marijuana hurts the less fortunate, a whole lot more than the fortunate. Ron Paul said “The most basic principle to being a free American is the notion that we as an individual are responsible for our own lives and decisions. People say marijuana ruins lives but it doesn’t. People committing suicide; that is ruining their lives, people kill people and end up in prison that is ruining their life. Smoking a plant does not ruin one’s life. There is no legitimate reason for the government to keep holding back from legalizing
