Persuasive Essay About Dress Code

School has lots of rules; some helpful, like UIL rules that manage an athlete's workload, and some not so helpful, like the recent change to the I.D. policy that allows students to continue doing what they already did anyway. Certain rules are disruptive to class flow and education, and the student body will agree with that. The dress code has to change. Students don’t care about the dress code, they really don’t, and it’s because of a few reasons, but first, what is the dress code to a student? The dress code is a big digital rulebook on how you shouldn’t dress in school, and covers things like bad language on T’s and running around naked, cool right? Wrong. The dress code is a little behind the times, not like victorian apparel kind of behind, but the “Why is this a thing?” behind. Dress code states rules on what is seen as inappropriate in a public space for mixing genders, but it doesn’t allow people to wear articles that are seen as risque, even if they are more comfortable or even the only articles they own. Most people don’t even read the dress code, they look at the first five rules, laugh, and move on. Constant focus on the hundreds of students that pass through the hall on the way to class is taxing on the faculty. When the students in a teacher's class must leave, the lesson is halted for the entire class, and the student doesn’t learn anything from leaving the classroom. One could argue that the reason for this punishment is because the clothes that are forbade by the student guide book are a distraction to other students the subject is in view of, but the fact is, bad students aren’t bad because someone else makes them that way, and the school should focus on those students instead of someone who is trying to express themselves through what they
