The median earnings for a personal trainer was $33,020 in May of 2013. This is less than the average salary which was $54,667 as of June 2014. This may seem like a deciding factor between the two careers but the job outlook for personal trainers is projected to increase by 13% through the year 2022. (“Personal Trainers” 949). Unlike personal trainers, horticulturists tend to make a little more. The median pay for horticulturists during 2015 was $64,170. Even though this is more than a personal trainer, the job outlook for horticulturists is projected to drop 2% through the year 2024 (Farmers, Ranchers, and Other Agricultural Managers). This information makes the decision harder because personal trainers have a better job outlook but horticulturists make more money. Personal trainers have very different work environments than horticulturists do. Some personal trainers will purchase their own studios or gyms and have their clients come to them. Some will go to client’s houses and work with them there. The most popular place to work is in recreational clubs, which 58% of trainers do (Fitness Trainers).
