Opportunity to Success
I am not born to a rich family that has everything I want and need and clearly I am not born with any amazing skills either. I am just a normal person who is lucky enough to receive the wonderful opportunity of a formal education in America. Despite my family’s lack of English language skills and the limitations of my family’s resources, I have been able to navigate myself through the American educational system. With hard work, many hours of studying and dedication to school, I have found success in high school in just four years of speaking English. However, my hard work is not over yet. Since high school, one of my goals is to pursue a math major at St. Olaf College because I know that I learn best and contribute more within a small learning environment. Now, that I’m at St. Olaf College and on my way to obtain a bachelor's degree in math, my next goal is to go to graduate school and earn a master's degree in engineering.

As a first generation student from a low income family, I aspire to pursue a career in engineering. Even though, it requires an enormous amount of math and physics experience, this did not mean that I had to give up my dream. In addition, since St Olaf does not have many engineering programs, I have decided to major in math. I am also going to take some physics courses, so it will help me later on when I go to graduate school for a master's degree in

Senior Brag Sheet Career Choice: I plan to double major in mechanical engineering and finance, but still face some uncertainty in this plan. My interests developed mainly from the push of my parents. Ever since I was a child, the overarching career I was pushed towards was engineer or doctor, so I pushed myself to learn topics that would better support these ideas. Classes such as Scitech gave me an understanding of what engineers do which provided me with a great deal of interest. Other clubs such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS have also given me experiences that have fostered this interest in engineering with competitions and processes of creating something.…

Although I am currently in pursuit of a career as an engineer, I hope to retire early into a less demanding profession, so I can return to a small community such as my hometown and volunteer as a high school track and cross country coach. If I can share the same passion for the sport, which Coach Scannella shared with me, and alter at least one young person’s life in a positive manner, then I will be satisfied with my efforts. While my aspirations lie in the somewhat distant future, I have already taken steps to bring me closer to that point. One technical aspect of reaching this dream is to be able to advance my engineering career in a timely fashion, so I can achieve my personal goals and move on to this new pursuit. Thus, I have remained focused on my schoolwork throughout high school in order to prepare myself for the challenges that await me in college.…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

I am interested in teaching at Breakthrough as a Teaching Fellow this summer because Breakthrough is where I discovered my passion. Working with the students as a volunteer last summer, and as a teacher during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school-year program, was something I looked forward to every day as I got to know each of our special students. I discovered that working with kids, who often say exactly what they are thinking and choose to find joy and positivity in all aspects of life, was something I absolutely love and something that makes me truly happy. It is difficult to convey the joy and comfort I find in teaching, and how much I value the opportunity to change a child's life for the better by offering the support they may not have…

I wish to attend to Rose Hulman because it is an excellent school with a strong focus on math and engineering. I still remain slightly undecided on my major between studying mathematics, physics, or engineering, however, Rose Hulman provides a strong focus in all of those areas. My greatest academic strengths are my work ethic and my ability to solve difficult problems. My greatest academic weakness, I believe, is solving simple problems quickly, since I tend to make very simple mistakes when I work too fast. Finally, I believe I will be a good fit at Rose Hulman because it is a school that has a strong alignment with my academic standards and…

These findings reinforce the assertion from Marcia and Friedman (1970) that although identity achieved women tend to pursue more difficult majors than women who are identity diffused; however, identity foreclosed women also pursue more difficult majors. According to Marcia and Friedman (1970) identity achieved and identity foreclosed women both tend to have high levels of self-esteem.…
