I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…
She helped me learn that what I wanted to do with my life was to become a nurse like her but even further my education into becoming a Perinatal nurse practitioner (NP). After high school I plan on attending Southern State and enrolling into their nursing program to become a Registered…
If I could go back to the past and talk to myself in September 2013, I would tell my younger self to be prepared for the next four years. I would advise myself to plan out my work and actually do assignments ahead of time instead of putting them off until nine o'clock the night before they were due. I would tell myself to not take honors trig because it was too much to handle combined with all of my other classes, as well as saying, that just because it was recommended to take a class, it doesn't mean I should've. I would recommend actually trying to do the workouts for field hockey before preseason. That way it wouldn't be so bad in the future.…
While at a Community College, I have had time to grow and mature into a finer young adult than I came out of High School. I learned to live on my own and take care of myself, while continuing to acquire training and education. It was also a time I took to figure who I am and who I want to be. With that in mind, I have found that I desire to continue growing at a different institution. While I have learned a significant amount of things in my current college and enjoyed every minute of it, I will be graduating from its program soon and wish to explore opportunities elsewhere.…
Going back to college, even though I have a bachelor degree, was the most important decision I took since I have moved to America. Three years ago, I started my studies in Union County College which is located on Cranford, New Jersey. On my graduation May 25th of this year, I realized that I had not only received an associated degree, but I have also received an opportunity to have a hopeful future. Returning to college was a personal challenge and an important tool to start a successful career in America.…
As annoying as they might have been, i am very appreciative that i had them pushing me to become the most successful me. Besides the obvious reason of making my parents proud, college education is important to me for so much for than that. As spontaneous as i am, i need security and stability in my life. College education will also open up a new world of opportunities for me. Graduating college is a big accomplishment that i take as a challenge, and i can not wait to say "I did it".…
Personal Statement Draft “To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” -Anatole France Throughout my whole life, I have always been an indecisive pessimist. Being Hispanic, I grew up in an environment where my parents had high expectations that intimidated me because I was the oldest of three. My parents have always sacrificed a lot to give us the opportunity to earn a more higher education because they never got the chance to coming from very poor families.…
My father died when I was 13 years old and as a result, my mother is now my household’s sole provider. Her paycheck covers our basic necessities and leaves very little left over for my college fund. I have worked very hard my high school career to cultivate both impressive grades and extracurricular activities. First day of freshman year I already intimately understood that if I wanted to go to college, I would have to get scholarships and grants. My mother earns too much to qualify for aid but not enough to pay for my tuition.…
How prepared are you for college? College is a big deal but it is nothing that I can’t handle. I have prepared myself for college through rigorous courses, volunteering, being a member of student council, and traveling. These are opportunities I believe a potential college student should be exposed to.…
Over the years of my high school life I was never sure about many decisions I make. However, I’ve grown and learned to continue on a path that’s going to lead me somewhere I feel safe, empowered and successful. Going to college is something I’m sure about, but it’s hard to choose the best college that’s right for me. NYU is a university that I’ve always wanted to attend, ever since I started searching for colleges online. New York University is one of the well known college for visual and performing arts.…
about me and why I am going to college Why I am attending college. Im attending college partly because my parents are making me come and the other part is that I need to make sure that I can live by myself and that includes having my own job and not relying on everyone that I know. I have chosen ECTC because it was in my price range. All of the other schools that I would be wanting to attend would make me take that same classes that I am taking now so what would be the point in taking out huge loans that I cannot pay back yet. I am the first Hively to ever attend college.…
As I sit in my English 3 class thinking of a topic I want to do I think of my goals and what I want to achieve in life, so I decide to do my goals. Having goals help you achieve what you want in life and since neither of my parents went to college I want to make them proud I am going to go to college not only for them but for myself too. My parents are always telling my siblings and I how much they want us to go to college since they never did and I believe that I can do anything I set my mind to. I really want to go to college and make my parents proud of me.…
No one in my entire family went to college so I am on my own. Growing up there was not always enough money to eat let alone save for college. The idea that some one from my family was going to attend college was way beyond any ones mind. I am paying for college by myself and acquiring extreme debt along the way. Any amount of money that I do not have to worry about coming up with is an enormous help.…
Scared, nervous, confused, lost. All words that describe your average college student faced with the ever elusive question... what am I going to do with the rest of my life? For a very few selective group of people this is an easy problem to solve. They have a job waiting for them outside of college, their family has a connection, they know someone that has promised them a job.…
My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…
