As a student for the past 13 years we have been taught three main subjects; Math, writing, and reading. We start to learn how to read once we started saying our first words and exploring the world with our small stature, but a tall imagination. School came along and made our lives more broad towards what is expected of us and the amount of the work that will come in the following years. As time moves forward, we grow in stature physically, and mentally. I noticed this once I entered high school and began to be assigned papers that were 4 pages based on House on Mango Street. Which was one of my first assignments for the first semester in high school that's where I understood that reading and writing will be needed to be at the highest level. Reading is a cross-road between the author and as the reader who needs to understand the concept before making a connection. Ever since high school started reading has made my writing more interesting since I can use authors' examples from the text and integrate that into a way that my writing flows. …show more content…
I try to catch the main topic that the author is making and create a chart in my head where the author's examples and point of views start interacting with each other to create an idea that cannot only serve as a summary of what the authors' ideas a creative gateway to my personal life for I create my paper as personal as I can. Since giving personal examples not only show that you have an interest in the topic, it also shows you love learning about the subject and giving a point of view that nobody else can bring with them. I guess it just takes the student to realize that not only that this topic will help in the class, it can also help later in your academic and professional career. Reading is something that helps in a personal level as well from reading books to develop my mind to reading a bible, it’s just a necessity to widen your imagination, it gives a personal trip to another world or just another understanding. As a reader, I love books that show a chance of redemption from struggles. An example is a book that I read over the summer called rooftop by Paul Volponi, about two teenagers, ended up at a rehab center for smoking and tragedy hits one of them. Since on a rooftop is where one of them dies and blame the drugs for his death since he’s an inner city teen. Whereas they aren’t looking at the police’s involvement in his death since they were on the rooftop that night as well and couldn't see clearly. This just relates to the people I have met who have struggled with this and are looking for a way out of a place where no one should be. They have said they this for their families and the struggle, to pave a way for them not only to move past the emotions they have inside, They want a future that doesn't include some decisions they have done. Which, truly can only be done by cleansing yourself mentally. Also books with suspense, that gives a front row seat in a world that doesn't have a 17 inch screen and a cable going down its side can ever

As an incoming freshman in August of 2015 taking Rhetoric 105, I not only learned how to take apart papers, summarize, paraphrase, analyze and construct passages, but overall to be a great thinker. There are many ways that a person can tell you that works to become a better thinker, but it starts within you. While writing papers this fall semester, I learned that my writing became better when I a. understood what was being asked of me via the criteria, b. allowed myself to make mistakes in order to understand what I was and wasn 't doing correctly, c. I started to question myself, not in a way of was the work too hard, but in the sense of what the assignment and the thesis I am creating is asking. At this stage, you have to be completely real…

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

I like to do some research as well to come up with different ideas to bring up and write them all down on a paper. By researching and gaining as much knowledge as attainable for my essay, each paragraph comes much easier for me and my thoughts flow much smoother. Looking through my ideas that are written on the paper I begin to organize them by creating an outline, starting with the introduction, then the body paragraphs, and ending with the conclusion. I make sure to separate my thoughts and ideas into each paragraph based on topic and then I continue by writing transition sentences to make the essay flow well. When I do complete an outline my essay is always much more organized and easier to write.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

In my internship as a student accounting I developed stronger analytical, organizational, written communication, and planning skills as well as a better attention to detail. In creating reports and validating invoices I developed a better analytical skill. When I started I had to ask questions about numbers I was inputting into reports because I was unsure if they made sense in the context and I didn’t know how to determine if they were. Likewise, when I first began validating invoices, I was unsure how to decipher the different charges and ensure the invoices were correct for some of the longer invoices; the times and materials ones in particular.…

It has been over a week that I have been in a pensive mood and have been contemplating about this essay. I recall how it all began. It was a tiresome evening of the last day of August and I have recently arrived home from camp. The first thing I was informed to do when I entered the house was that I had an essay that I needed to compose for a competition.
