Personal Narrative: The Wonders Of True Writing

In a world full of tweets, Instagram stories and social media posts in general, it is very refreshing to go back to the basics of what true writing is. It has been nine years since I have had any formal writing assignment, so this course was a tremendous refresher and quite a challenge in some ways more than others. Looking back on my very first reading analysis ever, and my first paper as a college student, I realized that I did not know what I was doing. I was flying by the seat of my pants and I knew that wouldn’t get me far. I had to relearn all the basics that go into writing a competent and structured paper. Things such as; comma’s, tense shifts, fused sentences, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives to name a few. Even the proper format in which an essay is …show more content…
For one, my word choices were not as limited, I started using bigger more efficient wording and avoiding empty or vague wording. I could pick out sentence fragments, place some correct punctuation. These practices then started taking over my everyday life. My text messages and such had suddenly become more punctual. I didn’t feel so lost. The first essay I wrote, “The Wonders of Wine” was when I started to get the hang of editing a paper a lot better than before, something that I have always struggled with, but not have an easy and efficient way to complete the task. I also found that I enjoyed this type of writing the most and it flowed easily for me. This course has also taught me a lot of new things as well. It’s taught me that there are a lot of different writing techniques, tones of voice, and different types of papers you can write. Two of the most important things I have learned and will continue to use is the MLA styled format and my critical thinking skills. A few of the articles we were asked to analyze were difficult for me to understand and that made it hard to write

I struggled with many assignments for this class because of it. First of all, I did all of them at home in my room, and it was really hard for me to concentrate on the work. There were too many distractions, and I took too many breaks. As a result, it took me much longer to finish the assignments than it should have. I think I would benefit from writing at the library…

When I was a child I always though about business. I wanted to know how things worked, how money worked. I started watching my grandfather write his invoices, deposit checks, talk to people as if he knew them but they had just met. I wondered how he did it, how he played his cards right and got people to hire him.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Like most people who share the state of conciousness, I am prone to day dream. I often float away on the soft clouds of my fantasies, drifting high above reality in the vast blue sky. As a writer, these fanciful mental journeys sometimes lead me to imagine what my perfect writing environment would look like. I am not alone in this wistful contemplation; many other authors, painters, and musicians join me in exploring this mental path, each envisioning their own versions of the ideal creative escape. Some yearn for extravagant spaces, like a sprawling historical library, or a high tech office.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

My first class at Greenville College was Core 101 and the professor Mrs. Estevez. One of our assignments she made us do was an analysis paper. When she explained this assignment to us, the whole class was confused. The reason that the whole class was confused was because she would explain it one way to one student and then explain it a whole different way to the student. The analysis paper was supposed to be 3 pages long and double spaced.…

I have always been a reader, I don't think there has ever been a time in my life where I haven't loved it. My mom is a teacher, so as a child reading was part of our everyday life. We had annual passes to the library and would attend the mommy and me events. I remember when I was about four or five, I would sneak a flashlight into my room and read Wizard of Oz. Although I couldn't actually read the words out of this huge chapter book, I would make the story up, pretending I knew what I was reading.…
