Skylar Barbee, A name this is both Feminine and mescaline. Although it is more commonly used for a boy and spelt “Skyler”. My mom says she got my name from a movie called “Good Will Hunting”, but she has always liked that name. All in all I do like my name and think it fits me, especially “Barbee” as many say because I have the blue eyes and blonde hair just like barbies do. With having that as my last name, even though spelt different, people commonly think I just call my self that or that I am just making it up.…

The sun’s burning rays beat down on us as we dug through the layers of Egyptian sand and rock. We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin.…
Mark Twain once said, “Names are not always what they seem.” Whether you share a name with tons of people or virtually no one in the world there’s always some type of history behind it all. I was given the name Hermino which is a Spanish derivative of the ancient Roman name Herminius. Like many people I am the namesake of elder relatives (my grandfather and great-grandfather). In spite of being the namesake of my elders there is not exactly any tradition behind the names only parents who felt that it was right to name their kids after old Hermino.…

Anyone who has gone through school has experienced struggles here and there with various subjects. Some subjects you might despise, some teachers you might dislike, and some subjects just may not be understandable. Yet, as we learn from our school counselors, there is always some tortuous way to get out of that miserable hole. During middle school, I experienced this misunderstanding with history; what more was history than some facts put together in some sort of timeline? Unknown to me at the time, the root of my struggles was in fact the lack of personal experiences that could enable me to relate to history of any sort.…
I like my name. It is unique to me, and I like that a lot. I think the worst thing about my name is that it has different spellings so people get it wrong a lot or on keychains, sometimes I can’t find the right way to spell it, other than that I appreciate the name. I think it is great that my mother allowed…
Few people would argue the value of creating a story of a life lived. In fact, it’s why I consider it a wholly noble idea that I create my own life’s story. From it, I hope my descendants will likely learn something valuable and endearing, tragic or disgusting and distasteful from the life I’ve experienced, but nonetheless might know me. Not in as much as my inability to convey the message, but more so just the total lack of interest by many in hearing what I have to say is what I consider a monumental loss to those who could know me but don’t, and will only do so should they take the time to read this. I always concluded that it would take rather a prodigious effort to write my own history, not only for the fact that no-one would necessarily…
