Personal Narrative: The Johnson Family

The Johnson family prepares to embark on a 80 night trip, driving and pulling their camper from Florida to Alaska and back, beginning on June 1. Mark, Jody, and their two children Maggie (age 16), and Joe (age 15) Johnson are extremely excited to soon set about on their three month trip across the United States, traveling over 12,400 miles. Joe Johnson finds that the “car part is boring and a long time sitting down in the car forever,” but looks forward to “seeing a bunch that [he] hasn’t seen.” Driving in a white Suburban, the family will pull their Lance travel trailer that fully functions as a mini home. Jody Johnson does not look forward to “the long driving hours” as they will drive over 12,400 miles through: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. During this time, the family plans on staying in over forty camp sights and at least one hotel. Looking forward to the trip, Joe Johnson is most excited about “going to Alaska” and having his friend, Noah Hubbard, join the family for two weeks during the trip. Noah Hubbard (15) will fly from his home in South Carolina to California to meet the Johnson Family, while Maggie Johnson plans on parting from the family during this time in order to attend camp in Washington DC. When asked if the family will ever get tired of traveling Joe Johnson expressed “I will most likely get tired of traveling because it is such a long time away from home and my friends.” On the other hand, Jody Johnson feels that she “could never get tired of traveling.” However, she did add chuckling “ask me that question on the last day of the trip and I might have a different
