This time, I was ready to prove to myself that I could be just as confident as my peers. I told myself that I would participate, even if it was only once. While listening to someone speak against my friend’s bill, I decided that it was time to speak my mind. I raised my placard high, radiating self-confidence that I didn’t completely possess. I asked a question that disproved the point the opposing speaker was making, and ultimately helped my friend’s bill pass through the senate. As I put my placard down, I couldn’t help but smile. At that moment, I was more proud of myself than I had ever been before. As I sat back down in my seat, I knew that this moment would leave a colossal impact on my character in the future. Looking back on this moment as a senior in high school, I know that this experience was a turning point in my life. I have participated in this program for the last three years and each year I have seen greater self-confidence than I saw in the last. If not for the experiences that I have had in Youth and Government, I would not be the person that I am today. Although I still have moments where I feel inadequate, I am proud to have faced my biggest fear and to have grown into both a happier and more confident
