When I was about eight years old with blue eyes, blonde braids, and wearing my favorite purple tie dye swimsuit, one of my favorite pastimes during the summer was “saving” bugs from our swimming pool. I would swim around the edges of the pool and look for bugs to rescue and nurse back to health, occasionally designating a box in which to place them. On one occasion, my mom walked outside to find me rescuing bugs and separating the living ones from the dead. I would place the dead ones on a piece of paper, but the living ones I put in my box with leaves and flowers. When my mom asked me about it, I promptly answered, "The bugs in the box are in hospice!" This story was, and still is, very comical to my family. I answered that way because, at the time, my mom worked at a children’s hospice and respite facility called Ryan House. I loved Ryan House, and spent many Saturdays volunteering and getting to know the kids there. I still volunteer there for holiday events, usually to help direct newer volunteers, as I have grown to know Ryan House very well. There will always …show more content…
One of those friends lives in England, and when we visit each other, her twin sister Marnie still comes up regularly in our normal dialogue. All of these opportunities, along with many more, have strengthened me for the situations I have experienced and have yet to experience. I am excited for college to be the next chapter where I can be further equipped and enabled to serve others throughout my life, specifically pertaining to my future career. As I explore where God wants me to be in this world, literally and figuratively, I am reminded to trust God through the presence of the many ways I have seen him preparing the little girl that saves bugs for what lies

I have seen my 14 year old cousin battle osteosarcoma and leukemia for two years and pass from the disaster after two years. I have also watched my 15 year old dog slowly and painfully live his last two months of life on different medications. Two weeks ago, as I was driving to school, I witnessed an ambulance pull into a driveway. Two men stepped out of the ambulance, grabbed the gurney from the back of the vehicle, ran into the house, placed a man on the gurney, rushed back to the ambulance, lifted him into the back of the vehicle, and quickly drove…

In the event that I could not save my father, it was my responsibility to have the paramedics at my house, and unfortunately this happened often. I was shown the delicacy of life in the most dramatic of ways. Although I was only ten years old when I took responsibility for my father, my age was not an indication of my maturity. I was not a child anymore, but instead a…

As a medical assistant who worked in Internal Medicine and at rehab for drugs and alcohol I had many stories that came to mind. But from all these stories one stood out to me; it involved an infant. This event occurred when I worked as a Medical Assistant at Internal Medicine. It was 8:30 when the paramedics left the ER to respond to a call about an unresponsive 3- month- old baby. At 8:49 the nurses were tending to patients and eating breakfast; a paramedic’s voice came over the the ER radio saying, “Unresponsive 3- month- old female…” that was all I heard before the doctor started barking demands and the nurses scurried to the back room. The nurse I had been shadowing told me to stand in the corner and watch and that I did. Moments later two male…

Since childhood, spiders to me have remained the blood curdling, bone-chilling creature, with the ability to paralyze almost everyone – from adult men to teenage girls – with fear. As a teenage girl, I seem to be the stereotypical, terrified victim of the spider. Flashback to my earlier teenage years, and I was not moving that spider. There was no way – it was not a job for me.
