Personal Narrative: Terraplane

Decent Essays
The sounds of a strumming guitar and someone humming an old tune came from the inside of a ‘52 car, a Hudson Terraplane. “It’s coming….now….listen….” said Errol.
We didn’t mind listening. The cold air was sucking the cigarette smoke out of the side windows of this huge American car, the large tyres whished on the tarred road. We weren’t in a hurry. We had time to kill. We enjoyed being with each other. Well, for most of the time I suppose we did like each other. But tonight wasn’t a night for worrying about that. We had more important things on our mind. Tonight we would be taking the Terraplane through its paces…we would push it over 100 mph. It would be a journey to remember, something that we had planned and spoken about for some time.

Not knowing what to do, because if we didn't even know how to start the music then obviously we didn't know how to stop from rolling to our death, we just put seat belts on. You’re always taught growing up that seat belts protect you, so that's what we did. Dalton and I had already put on seatbelts and had begun screaming at the top of our lungs because in our minds, we were going to die. Dianna on the other hand was still in the driver seat clinging to the steering wheel. The sound of the rain hitting the top of the car, mixed with the screams of three seven year olds, made the whole situation ear-piercingly…

Excitement bubbles over each passenger, and our faces radiate with joy. Anticipation blinds us from perceiving the grand distance between our vehicle and our destination. Every approaching mile draws us in more rapidly than the last.…

There used to be a young boy named Alastair who lived on beautiful, purple planet called Pluria. Secured by a delicate air of virtue, Planet Pluria was a standout amongst the most delightful planets in the solar system with its lovely lavender shade of purple. The sound of kids' feet shuffling along the floor and their sharp laughs would fill the air each and every day. I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…
