On 05/12/17 at 6:48pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to the area of W 5th Ave and Highland St on a dog at large, patrol only. I arrived in the area and saw a unknown male and female playing with a white medium mix dog and a boxer in a field. I stopped and exited my vehicle and approached the individuals. They indicated that they are the ones that called about the boxer running loose. I returned to my vehicle and retrieved my snare pole and doggie treats.…
Over time of always bugging me about wrestling, I ended up taking his advice and decided to wrestle. When i tried out for wrestling at the end of the week of tryouts i was in love with the sport. I was an 8th Grader wrestling varsity. One of the way i became good at wrestling was off season wrestling which is called Freestyle. Freestyle is every Tuesday's and Thursday’s and open tournaments on saturday’s.…
Determination without limits Ever since I was 10 I've been immensely involved in cheerleading. Even though my cheerleading routine is only two minutes and thirty seconds long we practice eleven months of the year and roughly 10 hours a week. I'm now 17 ,and I put seven years of hard work and determination into cheerleading. Without Cheerleading, I would never be in the successful position in my life that I'm currently in. Cheerleading taught me about teamwork, leadership , and perseverance , lesson that helped me succeed not only school but in life.…
I once thought I couldn’t believe in myself! I felt as if I were nothing but a sheet of glass that was completely useless. When there were gloomy days, I felt like broken glass that was scattered all over the ground and I wouldn’t be fixable. So I thought if I joined a sport, I would then, have no choice but to believe that I can do more and accomplish more, and be better than whom I was! When I was little I loved to run…
Nothing compares to the flamboyant peculiarity of fairs. These world-wide extravaganzas are among the most bizarre place in this world. Both State Fairs and County Fairs alike use their exotic foods, their new products, and their “cute” barn animals to draw in more people. Walking down the street, performers pop up every minute performing amazing feats of balance, agility, and magic. Even every once in awhile, a lucky guess at your age, weight, or birthday will amaze all the surrounding people.…
Many events throughout an individual 's life will help to shape the kind of person they become. These events can be both depressing and inspirational. Examples of life altering events may include the loss of a loved one, the birth of a child, near-death experiences, or even participating in large scale events that comply with either their life goals or career paths. One event that has helped to shape my own life was attending the NHSFR, or National High School Finals Rodeo. I qualified as the only sophomore in bull riding, being the only competitor in the top 8 that was not an outgoing senior that year.…
Despite how slow the days seemed to pass, I finally realized how close I was to my junior year when my teachers announced a meeting for my junior ring ceremony. That marked an end to my sophomore year and a beginning to my junior year. From all the faculty informing me that junior year would be my most important year I knew the pressure was…
“Blood, sweat, and chalk; never tears.” These words have guided my gymnastics career throughout high school. Pretty much starting from the beginning, I had to re-learn many skills and tricks that I had lost after quitting gymnastics for dance lessons in fifth grade instead of joining the competitive team. I lived for gymnastics and I still do. Walking into the gym always boosts my mood and gives me a rush of determination.…
During this time period I felt like a very good wrestler. I was going to National Duals, in Council Bluff, Iowa. A lot of things happened from around March-April. I was wrestling in Subdistricts at 92 lbs. one year ago.…
It was my senior year of basketball and it was just getting started. This was it, my final year where we were going to win State and I was going to get a college scholarship. I had prepared all summer and in the preseason, nothing was going to get in my way. Our team was smaller this year and lacked the skill we had in the previous years, but that just meant I was going to have to step up even more. I was totally ready for the season and whatever challenges we would face as a team.…
Do you ever think about the sport you’re really good at, and like doing, then get injured so you couldn’t do it anymore? Neither did I until it happened before wrestling practice as we were warming up when I broke my collarbone. This all started the day after Thanksgiving at wrestling practice. We were warming up playing basketball and if someone didn’t make it you had to start sprinting for the ball.…
The first time I knew I had a talent, was when I entered wrestling at Carmel High School. My talent is that I can accomplish the impossible. In a matter of days, I became one of the best players in my wrestling team. In senior year when I first began wrestling, I lost to everyone on the team. After a week of practice, I accomplished the impossible.…
Quitting the sport I loved had made me realize that I need to start setting more goals for myself. Before my injury, my goals were mostly just about gymnastics. Now I have to set different goals in real life, which is for the better since I cannot do gymnastics forever. Before my injury gymnastics was all I thought about and I also did much better in school, but I was also more stressed. Gymnastics has taught me so much, especially patience which is why I did so well in school.…
Senior year was like no other, though. Realizing that my brother would not make it to any of my “lasts” was heartbreaking. Infact, I made a camouflage American Flag bow to wear in my hair every volleyball game to support my brother. Every time before playing a game, my team and I would stand on the end line while the National Anthem was playing. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up every single time I heard the National Anthem.…
The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…
