When I get to the fields I was excited. Sadly the game started out like most others did. First play catch, then stretch. When the first inning came along the other team (they were red) got to bat first. For some reason our pitcher wasn’t warmed up right, so she walked all the girls that batted. Now the red team was up by 5 but it was our turn to bat.
This inning was not as promising as we had hoped. We scored one run and the rest of the girls got out. The next inning, we had to make a change. As we ran out of the dugout, I told Kayla, “you will get all of these girls out.” That is exactly what she did. The score was still five to six. The pressure was on. I got up to the plate and I could feel my stomach turning and twisting. I held the bat tight. I could feel the warm wet leather from my hands that were sweating inside my batting gloves. I saw the pitcher start her wiand up. I could she the ball coming perfect right down the center of the plate. After I heard the crack of the bat, everything seemed like it was in slow motion. I swung the bat as hard as I could. After I ran as fast as could to first as I rounded the corner to see if I should go to second. The ball had landed forty feet into the outfield. So I ran to second and stopped there. Finally I realized that I had just broken my hitting slump. That felt amazing. I was the first one to hit the ball that inning. Everyone that batted after me followed in my footsteps.
