Personal Narrative: Running A Small Business

Many events that transpire in our daily lives can shift the way we perceive brand-new things. From miniature events like picking up an exotic colored frog in the sewers to find out that it’s highly poisonous, will have you reconsider the choice that you make in the future when you encounter events similar to this. Big events like having a family of clothed bears breaking into your home and the bears make it their home will have you to really reconsider for a major life change. Whether it’s a small or big event, any of them can change the way you view and think about things. For myself, the event that struck me like a lightning bolt was the beginning and the end of my business. Before I started my fallen business, I ran a small business. However, even before even that, I didn’t run any business. Let’s begin at the time where I didn’t run any businesses, and the events that changed my life leading up to the small business, and the business that rise and fell before it could see itself in a magazine. It was the year 2015 and I was a senior in high school. Life during that time was pretty average as not many inspiring things happen as they do now. I was a regular guy that liked to play video games in his room all day, and occasionally, design artworks on the computer. One day at school, I met this interesting guy in one of my classes that changed my whole view on life. His name was Brycen, and he ran a small store on a website called eBay. eBay is a retail website where people can put up their items on the internet for sale, and ship it to the buyer when it gets purchased. When I first discovered about his little job, I couldn’t care any less as I wasn’t interested during that time. I would then come to full regrets when the guns dropped when Brycen shown me the numbers that he made from his sales. In less than one week, this guy made four digits of cash just from buying and reselling items. This guy was swimming in a pool of cash for a high school student. The cash that he raked in was more than what a minimum wage person in Oregon would make in a week. With all of the digits that poured from his sales, it inspired myself to do the same thing. That’s when I decided that I’d create my own store on eBay and do the same thing as Brycen, buying and reselling items. The dream that I had in mind was to swim in a pool full of cash with digits soaring beyond what my high school Algebra teacher could apprehended. On the first week of starting a store on eBay. I quickly sold an item within less than 24 hours. The sale was not mere either as I made a total 100% profit gain from it. The item that got sold was a smartwatch that I bought for $249.99 a few days before starting on eBay. When I first got the watch, I took a bunch of photos of it so I could share it among my friends. With the …show more content…
The store started out small and then became larger than I’d have ever imagined. I started to sell items that were beyond my capability. Meaning, not only I was selling items that I owned, but, I was also selling items that my friends and family donated to me. The possessions I was selling on eBay during that time were things that I wouldn’t use or look at anymore. Things like toys that I used to own when I was little, books that I read as a child, and many more items related to my youth age. The things that my friends and family gave me were mostly clothing and electronics. There were piles and piles of clothing and broken tape recorders that were filling up the living room of my house. My mom would yell at me a lot for making our house looking like a garbage dump. Eventually, as time went by, many of those items were sold and the place started to look like a living room

I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit.
