The smell of freshly blossomed flowers mixed with the aroma of sun-dried seaweed and salt in the air was exhilarating.
I focus ahead to the sulfuric sand that awaits me, knowing fully well that I am about to sprint like Usain Bolt across its hot fine crystals and make my way to the welcoming bubbles and foam that await me.
Getting my feet wet in this cold water was hydrotherapy at is best. I slowly exhale as I allow the chills of the sea to rush through my nerves, I close my eyes and allow its vibrations to cool and calm me down. I stand still as I closely

Reflexology is an alternative medicine that is based on the theory that there are small areas of innervation in the feet that correspond to the organs and muscles in the body. The foot is a map of nerve endings, according to the theories in reflexology, that come from all over the body. For example, the lungs have nerve endings in the ball of the foot. Massaging the ball of the foot can help the lungs to function better. Likewise, massaging and applying pressure to the different parts of the foot can bring relief to ailments felt in the corresponding area of the body, relieve tension, improve circulation and reduce stress.…

Burnt, peeling skin slipped off my sun beaten arm. A salty tear dropped down my face, and I swallowed it, soaking in every bit of bitter liquid I could taste. I squinted, the sun capturing my green eyes at a glare. I reached over and grabbed my sunglasses, protecting my damaged eyes from the harmful UV rays. Suddenly, the world came into view.…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…

I’m standing at the edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I look out across the vast cavern catching glimpses of the Colorado River twisting through red striped spires. The southern sun beats down on the back of my neck, but my arms have goosebumps on them. I try to turn my gaze to my family behind me, but I can’t tear my eyes away from the view. I’m frozen in awe at the world around me.…

The car moved at a slower pace as we came closer to the camping spot. As I came out, I slammed the door shut, that made a big bang. I heard my little brother and sister screaming with excitement, her eyes wide, glancing out at the crystal blue sky, my mom ran to the lake, right in front of us with her camera. There was the beaming hot sun, tall oak trees and right in front of me was a small gross puddle of mud, making the air smell like a dumpster. I felt a shudder, gentle cold breeze, that blew against me, that made goosebumps on my arms and legs.…

Anna Maria Florida It was a hot, humid Sunday in Anna Maria Florida. We were going to the beach with the 3 other families that went with us. It was about a five minute walk from our house we rented to the beach, which really felt like five hours because I was really excited. Once we FINALLY got there my friends and I decided to take our shoes off and find a perfect spot in the white hot sand to set up of chairs and umbrella. We took our clothes off because our swim suits were underneath and sprinted to the clear blue ocean.…

Each year, a pilgrimage to the Florida or Alabama gulf coast is a highly anticipated and enjoyed event for my family. In the beginning, it was just my wife and I. Man oh man, these trips were some of the most relaxing times that I can remember. Now, our yearly “beach fest” includes our two children, Kaylee and Garrett. While this is still a wonderful family event, I no longer use the phrase “relaxing”. Elbert Hubbard once said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who just had one”.…

It was the last day of summer vacation and I found myself on the docks of Point Pleasant preparing to board the Norma Kay III for a morning fishing excursion. The air smelled of salt as I helped my dad and grandfather unload our cooler and equipment out of the back of the car. As I looked out on the gray ocean in the early morning light the upcoming day looked promising. I had never gone deep sea fishing before, and my mind was filled with images of me hauling in flounder after flounder and having the time of my life. I could not have been more wrong.…
