I must say, you’ve really come quite a long way from where you started. I was a little weary of you at first. In your early adventures, I found you to be an immature boy with a heart for mischief. Maybe it wasn’t just that you liked trouble, but you always seemed to find yourself in the midst of it. If I were you I would have stayed with the widow.…

As we drove up to the entrance there was a young lady waiting for us ready to show us all about the park.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
From the ages of 5 to 20, Dale Friend lived with no sisters or brothers outside of a village named Stony Ridge Ohio. Growing up in a farming community where over half of the population being Caucasian German folk, he barely experienced diversity except for the occasional Hispanics that came over to work in the summertime. When Dale graduated out of Eastwood High School at the age of 18, he left for Ohio State University in 1979. When asked of his transition from going to a high school with approximately 450 students from 6 different small-scale villages, to attending a college with over 50,000 students at the time, he replied, “It was fun going from everybody being the same, to so many differences and diversity.” Although Dale had certain…

I used to love writing when I was young; however, I fell out of love very quickly. In middle school, I was an avid reader and enjoyed writing but my eighth grade teacher changed this habit completely. The teacher assigned so many essays that at some point I started to see writing as a chore. This outlook on writing continued throughout ninth and tenth grade because of all the work the teachers assigned. I stopped writing and reading for fun, I only wrote and read for school.…
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened,” (Holy Bible, Mathew 7:7-8). I have heard this Bible verse from Matthew many times, and although it’s message left little room for perception, I found myself mirroring Jesus’ Disciple, Thomas, who had to ‘see to believe.’ Sure, I prayed regularly. Sometimes those prayers were answered, and other times they were clearly neglected.…
My Grandpa, always smiling… probably because he can’t hear what you are saying. My Grandpa A.K.A. Papa Jostes, is the best man I know. He is the sweetest, nicest, and most caring. Papa Jostes is always there for me no matter what. Anytime I needed anything he would be there.…
Who has influenced me? This is a very difficult question because it is not something I have truly taken the time to think about. I have never stopped to think about where my influences have come from. I recently came back into writing so I will use writings and influences from when I used to write frequently in high school and shortly after. I have kept most of what I have written and going back to them has been a sad experience.…
