Personal Narrative: My Piano

Improved Essays
There I was sitting at the piano, nervous and startled as my teacher entered the room. My heart was beating fast as if a cheetah was running. My palms were sweaty, and my face was all red. I didn't know if I was actually going to pass my piano test. It was my first ever piano test, and I really wanted to pass. My fingers started shaking and I just didn't know if I was going to make it.

It all started with my mom. She wanted her children to have musical knowledge, but I was the only one out of her four children that was interested. So when I was six, I started playing violin. However, I did not really spend that much time practicing the violin. I always used to sit at the piano in our living room and try to play, more than I practiced violin. So, my mom noticed and she switched me over to piano lessons.

I still remember the first time I ever played piano in front of what I felt like was a huge crowd. But in reality, it was just my teacher and my parents. Even though the crowd was small, I was still nervous because I was only nine years old, and it was my first ever piano test. My palms were sweaty, my face was all red, my heart was beating fast, and my fingers were shaking. Because of how nervous I was, my fingers played many wrong notes, and I failed the test. When we drove home, my parents talked to me and said that they're taking me out of piano lessons because I failed the test. I explained to them that I had to memorize five pieces and thirty scales and it was too hard. However, they did not change their mind about

The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…

The Keyboard I view society as a collection of musical compositions, each individual’s actions portray their story; tales of determination, education, and success. How I came upon this idea is somewhat unorthodox, and it all started my sophomore year when I took it upon myself to achieve a long-standing goal of mine and learn the piano. My first obstacle was a lack of piano to play, and after my parents made it clear that we were not purchasing a Steinway & Sons Grand piano, I turned to the next best alternative: Amazon. For $89 I was able to acquire a 61 key keyboard, with two-day free shipping. I distinctly remember the day it arrived; it was a humid summer day…
