I am an animal lover from a small town who is allergic to every animal I have ever owned. This has been a small hurdle though since I have learned how to deal with it and most importantly, get back to the critters I love so much. My passion for animals prospered when I joined 4-H. Originally I joined with cavies and photography however soon I was in rabbit 4-H as well. I started my heard with two Mini Lops, one of which I breed twice. Over the years I have extended my herd to include a Silver Martin, Jersey Wooly, Silver Fox, Netherland Dwarf and Holland Lop as well. Currently I have two Mini Lops, a Silver Fox and one Holland Lop which are the breeds I have found myself to have a soft spot for. I have stuck with cavies as well and currently own an American and American Satin. Finding success in both animals I have gone from county fair, to state fair, to some open shows and even National Convention. This year I have aged out of 4-H as a member, but I shall soon be back as either a leader or an assistant. My time studying and working with these creatures is not over yet, however, my enjoyment of studying these animals has led me to decide to further my knowledge and become a Veterinarian. …show more content…
Rabbits have taught me the importance of patients. When I work with any animal, especially new animals they tend to be nervous and it is impossible to handle them safely and effectively if I am just as nervous. Instead, I have found that forcing myself to stay calm and practice works much better with not just rabbits but many aspects of life as well. I have tried to show this to younger members in my club and FFA members when I give rabbit clinics and when I show beside them.
