My family is very tight knit and could be called a clan of a traditionalist. Somali Culture is based on Muslim culture, the same ethics and morals are practiced.
The world I come from has shaped my dreams because I've seen first hand the type of life I don't want to lead. I aspire to become an Endocrinologist and eventually travel the world treating Graves Disease. My parents immigrated to the US before I was born. I grew up with parents who were learning American customs and still assimilating into society. My parents broke their social norms by going to adult college and getting a basic education. Therefore, I have one parent who is fluent in English. I want to help others, and be satisfied. Satisfaction is what I want from life, I'm blessed to be going to school and learning daily, so I want to take advantage of that and help others. There are currently nine people in my household and out of those nine only one works. My mother supports and cares for each of us without complaining or showing us how hard it is. I can see the stress on my mothers face everyday, but she still puts on a smile and does not let it affect
