Personal Narrative: My First Day At Marble Slab Cream

Decent Essays
The first day at a new job can be terrifying to say the least. Well my first day at Marble Slab Creamery was humiliating to say the least. Honestly the details of which I still can’t all pick out. It all began with the interview process obviously, I was called in for an interview to work for an ice cream parlor in downtown Asheville. I walked into the stereotypical “shoppe” which consisted of a sticky tile floor, 24 irresistable flavors, and of course, a display of obnoxiously overpriced ice cream cakes. When I walked to the man who was to be interviewing me he introduced himself with a stern “ Hi, I’m Kyle, regional manager. And you might be?” and to my own horror as I Reach out to shake his hand I hear myself reply “Hi I’m Kyle”.... Much

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

I would visit Applebee’s again for several reasons; it is affordable, causal, and the food is really good. As a college student, the first thing that I consider before eating out is how affordable the place is. Compared to Olive Garden, I would say that this restaurant is a lot less formal, less costly, and a lower food quality. Overall, my experience was fun and enjoying because I felt relaxed sitting, laughing, and eating with my friends. When come back next time, I may try a dessert.…

I remember the day before my first day at Pennoyer. I was sad and happy, scared, and mad all at the same time. I remember crying and yelling at my parents to not make me go to school that next day. The next day I showed up at school and remember walking into Mrs. Michael’s third grade class and seeing all of these new people that I would be friends with for years to come. At this school is where I made new friends, great memories, and where I grew up from a little kid into a young adult.…

As I pulled into the park on a Friday evening, the sun glistened off of the metal handlebars lining the top of the skateboard area. Parents pulled into the parking lot with barely enough time to shift into park when their children eagerly thrust the door open and sprint towards the wooden entrance. The ground teetered as I walked in with young children not even reaching my waist rush in to claim their rightful throne on the swings. One child peeks their head from the top of the slide, exclaiming “Hello” and “Holla” to anyone who might hear him from such a massive heights. She still has Braum’s chocolate ice cream smeared on her face that could be mistaken for dirt.…

Working in fast food can be a very trivial experience. I aspire to always put up my best front, and present myself to the world in a positive manner. However, working at Sonic Drive-In has taught me quite a few things. For example, profanities can spew out of your mouth at a record pace when you spill a vat of hot grease on yourself, you can step into the freezer and scream without the customers hearing you, and when you work with someone from 5p.m. to 2a.m. you learn a lot about them. Now, I am going to be honest, I have to be at work in an hour…

ACME Rock Shop: The hastiest yet most instinctive business decision of my life. It was late 1979, and at the age of nine, I had already developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Rock & Roll. When I wasn’t busy playing hockey like a normal Canadian kid or taking Hammond Organ lessons (unlike any other normal Canadian kid), all of my free time was spent flipping through stacks of my parents’ classic rock albums, reading Circus Magazine, Creem, Hit Parade, and occasionally braving the dusty shelves of the local library to pull up anything I could find on The Beatles, The Stones, or The Who. By the age of nine I had certainly earned what could be considered a solid Bachelor’s Degree in rock musicology.…

Of the many different influential experiences I have had over the past years, the one that stands out to me the most as a true rite of passage was starting my first job as a lifeguard at Nassau Country Club. It taught me lessons like the true meaning of hard work, the the value of a day's pay and most of all, what it means to have someone's life in one's hands. These lessons were given to me through my own experiences, as well as by my boss, Dr. Dan Cavallo D.O, one of the hardest working men I know. It all began, however, with a huge stack of towels. On my first day of work, I was more nervous than I had ever been in my entire life.…
