This is the coolest, most exciting part was absolutely my chronic illness nursing clinical. Now I tried to go into each clinical experience with an open mind, despite any reservations I had on the branch of nursing I was…
They call them “Tap-taps,” the brightly painted open back trucks that transport passengers through the dusty streets of Haiti. A traveler taps the side of the vehicle to board, pays, rides and then taps to jump off at a desired destination. For one particular man who sat with his face covered by a towel, that destination was the Diegue clinic in Port-au-Prince. All I knew from intake was that this patient was here for a foot issue. I noticed the adult sitting uncomfortably, a towel wrapping his foot, as his eyes scanned around the room.…
Luckily, I was allowed to enter the room and see the entire process play out. Watching the team of nurses, PAs, physicians, and techs work together to save this stranger’s life instilled in me the desire to do this one day, and hopefully…
When I view the world around me, I see darkness. I see broken people with hurting hearts hurting others. What I also see are Christians. Christians everywhere who are doing nothing to love and help the pained individuals surrounding them, while doing everything to promote prosperity in their own lives. Of course, not every Christian is like that, as I am not one of those Christians.…
The first person that comes to mind the moment I hear lifesaver is my brother. He comes to mind because he had a major impact in my life. Ever since we were little we were only four years apart so that meant we were always play fight when we had the chance. When we got older he stayed with the coach where we were at before south Carolina for his football career. Because of that I work so I can be better than him.…
Yesterday, Oct 25, 2016, at 2:15p.m. , my soul mate, CMSGT (ret) Elmo Gladden, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family. His death was due to complications from a second open heart surgery---while all surgeries are a risk, I would surmise to say that open heart surgery is especially risky. However, we did not know such serious complications would occur, thus leading us on a roller coaster ride of despair, hopefulness then doom for seven days.…
Scraping your knee on the sidewalk, getting hit hard with the basketball, falling off the monkey bars, these are just a few examples of ways you can get hurt at school. The worst case scenario is you would end up going to the school nurse as a result of an accident. Before first grade, suffering an injury was way out of the norm for me. The only time I got hurt in first grade, I bypassed the school nurse and went straight to the hospital. It was a scalding August afternoon, and I just finished another tiring day of first grade.…
In March of 2015 I decided to take a huge leap of faith and start back to school to become a Reg.istered Nurse. The thought of a Bachelors in nursing never rossed my mind at the time I was just ready for something new, something more. At that point I had been in the dental field for sixteen years and I was ready for a change. What really helped drive this diction to change was my part time job working at a nursing home, I knew then I had more to give. This dream however was not a new dream it was one a long time in the making.…
My clinical experience so far has been quite interesting, because I learned basic clinical procedures and preventions that I know will benefit me as a nurse in the near future. During lab, we discussed infection control, personal hygiene, and isolation precautions. These procedures impact my personal health and wellness, because I need to ensure that I am using the proper techniques in order to keep me safe. Also, I know that it is important to make sure my patients are not at risk of developing hospital associated infections.…
On April 7th, 2017, I was assigned to Medical-surgical unit of Arlington Memorial Hospital. My goals were to follow the registered nurse and learn specific activities performed by her. My nurse had 6 patients that day so she was very busy. I had one of her patient who came to the unit with Acute Kidney Injury, fecal impaction and HIV. I looked at the patient’s lab values she had severe anemia and her BP value was on stage of hypertension.…
You saved my life. Now whether you believe me or not is up to you but hear me out. I was watching RAW a while back and I saw how much passion you had/have for wrestling and the WWE which made me want to learn how to wrestle. So cliché I know, but it's true.…
Being in a health science course pursue me to Practicum of Health Science because I would love the interest of being in Health Science field as my career option. I am applying for the Practicum of Health Science study of Pharmacy. The experiences that had in theses courses was getting to learn about all the different types of body systems and the process of Cpr. The Cpr Experience was quite interesting because you got to get certified to perform cpr on a person that was needed to have cpr perform somewhere. Honestly this influenced my decision to move forward on to Practicum Of Health Science because I would like to give another shot at applying for another Health Science course since I did make it into the clinical rotation portion and…
The First Clinical Experience It was an early morning in April. My friends and I arrived 45 minutes early to our long term care facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. The three of us sat in my car and anxiously awaited stepping foot into the care facility as we had no idea what to expect. I began to wonder what the patients would be like and how I would care for them.…
It was a cold Saturday morning back in January, 2012. I remember tucking my scrubs into my socks in a failed effort to prevent them from getting soaked in the slush-coated parking lot. I was overwhelmed with excitement as I rushed through the hallway to make it to huddle. Not even a snowstorm the size of Texas, trapping us all at work for days, could dampen my mood that morning. It was only my second week on the job in the emergency room when not even a half hour into my shift I witnessed my first cardiac arrest.…
When I was 4 I saved someone's life, not just anyone's life, my mom's life. I didn't see myself as a hero or anything, but people still call me one. Looking back at it now I realize how close I was to losing my mother. When your four years old you don't really know what danger is until you see it with your own eyes. I didn't know how serious the situation was until after the incident had already happened.…
