During my last clinical day, I was in the level 2 nursery and I worked with a 33 week and 5-day old baby girl who was born at 27 weeks. She was the result of a spontaneous placental abruption and had recently graduated from the level three nursery in First Hill. Meaghan was the nurse who I worked with and she was absolutely amazing. She had a diverse background in level two nursery care and worked in many different hospitals through her travel nursing carrier. She was up to date on evidenced based practice care and very informative about the all the rational for the care she was providing.…
Baby To Beast Freshman year is already stressful as it is. You are the new kids on the block, you dont know the ins and outs of the high school, and you dont want to make a fool of yourself in front of all these upperclassmen. Not only did I have to overcome that, I got diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect, or ASD for short. In other words, I had a hole in my heart between the two chambers of my heart. I was always a smaller kid in middle school.…
What do I want to learn from this course? To be honest, that is a hard question. I have worked with two-year old’s for the better part of my 24+ years of service and I don’t really know how this course will help me in the future. I do not do a lot of writing as a form of communication.…
Narrative- On 29Nov16 at 0804 hrs. I, Deputy Halbasch, was dispatched to 22997 Getaway Dr. for a welfare check. Debra Vorderbruggen contacted the HCSO and stated an employee of hers, named John Heerdt, had not shown up for work today & she had not heard from him. Debra stated he was strange for John to not be at work…
Humid gusts of wind burst through the ajar windows in the back of our clamorous twelve passenger van. Through the stereo, a soft melodic beat flows effortlessly. Excitement bubbles over each passenger, and our faces radiate with joy. Anticipation blinds us from perceiving the grand distance between our vehicle and our destination. Every approaching mile draws us in more rapidly than the last.…
It was a Saturday morning March 17, 1996 I was eight months in my mother’s tummy and my due date was in mid April. Uncle Benito had the crazy idea of going to the snow all because my mother had never seen the snow. My mother told me of a hill she sled down from, a great slope that didn’t leave her feeling to good “No me siento muy bien.” My uncle rushed her to Granada Hills Hospital on the morning of March 19, 1996; I was born seven pounds at eight minutes until eight.…
In 2003, when I was born, noise everywhere, loud noises of me crying and me hardly able to breath. 2005 was like pothole when you get stuck and something bad happens, my parents got divorced and the good part is when you get out and find out that everything is okay. Then in that same year my sister and I to be put in foster care with two other people,we then had to clean the bathroom with the lavender scented cleaner. In 2007 Lilly and I were almost put for adoption.…
As I opened the door to my house from a long day of middle school, I heard my mother crying. Before I could even see her, I knew what had happened, it had happened many times before, she had an asthma attack and struggled to communicate to the doctor due to English not being her first language. Every time she visited the doctor she struggled to communicate leading to an extremely stressful situation. When possible I went to the doctor with my mother, however, that was difficult at times. That day made me realize that I was in a unique position to help people in a similar situation to my family.…
I documented the children and assessed them after I demonstrated the project first. I stood back and watched the children not talking to them and listened. They were talking among themselves and saying what they thought would happen next. Children would even say the things I did as I presented the project. After sometime I asked the children what they were doing to hear their responses.…
The school I chose to visit is Child Development Services (CDS) Head Start I met with Sheryl Grasmick who is the center manager. She shared many of the safety procedures with me the first thing that is noticed when entering in to the school there is a key pad in the front entrance that a code has to be entered for the door to unlock the floor is tile and there are runner mats for when the weather is bad so students and parents don't have to walk on wet tile. Sheryl said they have fire evacuation, severe weather/tornado procedure and lock down procedures in place that all employees have been trained on as well as they do drills on a monthly basis to keep the students aware of the proper procedure. For the fire evaluation students are required to line up walk outside along the playground fence and line up along the back of the fence and stay there as their teacher calls attendance to make sure all students are accounted for once they are the teacher holds up a green card showing all are safe and accounted for, there is also a white card with a red cross showing paramedics are needed or a red card, meaning not all are…
I spent 10 Mondays in the Child Development Center, for a total of 30 hours all together. Throughout my time in the CDC I was able to experience many different things and apply the techniques that we learned in class. I was able to use many different responsive care giving strategies to be able to bond with my focus child and make my learning experience much more meaningful. I was also able to connect with my mentor teacher and pick up many different skills to not only apply in class and on the assignments but at my job and in my future career field, as well. I found this experience to be very positive and constructive.…
After taking this course it has really opened my eyes of how children should be treated not only in the classroom but also in every day lives. I want to become an elementary school teacher in a few years and this course has helped me in so many ways to do so. There are a few concepts that really stuck out to me that I want to accomplish in my classroom. One being, I think it is extremely important to make sure each child feels wanted in the classroom and builds a sense of attachment with you. Another important concept is related consequences because it teaches the child what happens when they behave in a negative way.…
My mother, Amanda, was adopted at birth. She has always looked for her biological mother, but had always hit dead ends. About ten years ago, I started to become very curious as well. We knew her name, where she lived when we was pregnant with my mother, and all the information on my mom’s birth certificate. After many years of searching, we gave up.…
The receptionist at the desk of the hospital could not print my badge fast enough, I was eager to see my sister and her baby. I do not think you are supposed to run in the hospital, so I walked down the hall as quickly as possible. My heart was racing, and my hands were shaking. I was filled with so much emotion I could not control my body. When I reached the room I slowly opened the door making sure it was okay to enter.…
I haven 't paused to blog for some time now. With a crazy schedule for myself, kids, and family, there is often little time to stop and reflect. But this major milestone deserves some reflecting. And it deserves some shoutouts to some important people. And it just deserves to be written down for others to reflect on, find comfort in, and maybe offer thoughts as well.…
