Personal Narrative: My Ecological Worldview

The environment has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts right on the river with my father; a wetland biologist, my mother; a biologist and science teacher, and my brother; a computer guy. Since I was little, I was taught to respect nature, and to leave it the way it is. While some children picked a flower to bring home, I would leave it be for others to enjoy, and for nature to flourish.
Similar to beliefs and life lessons, it all depends upon how you were raised, and your past and current worldview. In this current case, the ecological worldview. Ecological worldview is how a person views or acts towards the environment or the world; from an ecological standpoint. Some people may consider that humans must take over nature; to tear down forests to build shopping malls, and others may believe the best thing you can do is to leave the environment be; to let it flourish. My ecological worldview came from how I was raised; which is where most views are inherited from. Having two parents who both devoted their life to helping the environment; you learn a lot. Not only when I was little I was taught about the environment from my parents, but all throughout my school years. I loved the environment so much, I decided to devote my life to it. With ongoing pollution into our air and waterbodies that is generally caused by human influence, the environment does not deserve to be picked and pried at; like some kind of toy. It deserves the same respect as we do to our peers. The If I were to describe my own ecological worldview, I would say; the environment is such an important aspect of our whole world, and the best thing you can do is just leave it be if it is doing no harm. The overall environment has been here longer than we have been on this earth, and it deserves to be here long after the human
