Personal Narrative: My Eagle Scout Project

Improved Essays
One of my most meaningful service experiences was my Eagle Scout project. One of the requirements for obtaining the rank of Eagle is that the Scout must complete a service project that benefits the community; my project was to fundraise, organize, and oversee construction of a new pavilion at the Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning, a special needs camp, near Mayville, MI. The Fowler Center is a non-profit organization and a year round camp for kids with special needs. One of their programs, Outpost, is a 2-week camping experience that’s mainly geared toward campers with autism. The Fowler Center was in need of a new pavilion at their campsite for the campers to utilize for activities such as meals and games. The pavilion was 14 ft. x 24 ft., with a roof and open walls. Not to belittle another Scout’s project, but sometimes the projects that others choose are not truly constructive. I wanted to do a project that would have a great impact on those affected; it had to be something that would stand for many years and the generations to come could benefit from it. My wish was for a project that would last a lifetime and not just a year or two. I decided on the pavilion, and it was quite the daunting task. I also chose to participate because I was the director. I had to organize and plan the tasks that myself and the volunteers had to accomplish before the deadline. During my project, I had an important deadline: finish it before my birthday. The requirements state that I can’t receive my Eagle after I turn 18. With the deadline in front of me, I was determined to finish the pavilion as soon as possible while still taking the time to make it the best that it could be. I set goals, made lists of duties to carry out, and I stayed on track. It was completed on time and I was proud to be the manager of the operation. I couldn’t wait to see the community put it to

You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. The people who lived at the camp we were staying at, greeted us with open arms and warm hearts. As a mission team, we were obviously caring people.…

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

My big home project was accomplished at Chase High School instead of it being completed at my home. Mrs. Kraus provided me and a fellow student ( Ashlyn Cox) the opportunity to clean the concession stand in the gymnasium so it would be clean for the Prom. We cleansed the concession stand with Oxygen Orange which is an all purpose cleaner and can clean almost anything. Prior to heading to the location we gathered four wash rags and we each had our own bottle of Oxygen Orange. When we arrived to the concession stand it was an absolute mess.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

National Honor Society has helped me develop their four pillars, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, into my daily life. To become a member, a specific GPA is required and maintained, which is more motivation to keep up academic achievement. Additionally, tutoring is a major part of our society, so having a good understanding of the subject you are tutoring in makes sure that you maintain the level of academic achievement the honor society calls for. I have always loved doing service in my community and being a member of the society has grown that passion for me in different ways, I became exposed to tutoring and community clean ups. It even inspired me to create an outreach through my ballet to a senior center.…

Scholarship, leadership, character, and service has shaped me to the person I am today. Today, I am involved in my community, top ten student, and a leader in my school. Although, this would have occurred without the four pillars of National Honor Society. As a child, I wanted to be a member of the National Honor Society but it was only a dream. Shortly after I had imagined myself as a member, my parents had passed away in a car accident.…

The National Honor Society is based on four pillars, which are, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. In some ways, I have already shown three of these pillars in my first two years of high school. However, there are several other ways in which I plan to lead my school, serve my community, and build my character, during my final years of high school. As I have mentioned, there are some ways that I have already shown leadership, service, and built my character during my first two years at Parkway South.…

It was a normal Tuesday at good ol’ Freeburg Community High School. Our rambunctious lunch group sat around the table to enjoy the lunch of the day, chili. Now you see, I had brought my lunch, but I wasn’t allowing that stop me from enjoying a steaming bowl of chili. My bowl of chili warmed my hands, heart, stomach, my esophagus when it was occasionally too hot, and eventually my lap. Between all of the jokes and laughter I hadn’t noticed that my hands were shaking a tad more than normal; if I had noticed, I would have done the smart thing and set my bowl down rather than hold it.…

Back in the days of yore, when I still walked the soft warm grass of my homeland, back when the great ice storm was still fresh in the minds of men, I lived in a trailer in the country, between Cridersville and Wapakoneta. I had a lot of free time and not many friends to talk to, save for Lucas who lived all the way in Buckland. I spent the majority of my free time at my neighbor’s house. My neighbors were the most ignorant gun toting Americans I’ve ever known.…

When it came time for me to begin thinking of an Eagle Scout Service Project, I wanted to do something that would ultimately impact my immediate community and last a long time. I did not want a project that would only last for a short amount of time, I wanted something that would last and leave an impact on others. With this thought process in mind, I also wanted to give back to a community that helped me become the person I am today. I decided I wanted to give back to the two elementary schools I attended, Evans Elementary School and Limerick Elementary School, both in the Spring-Ford Area School District.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Our group chose this project because we wanted to come up with a way to show respect. The class chose 2 different things to do one of them was go play games with the kids at Woodside or go to a nursing home. I chose to go to a nursing home and play some games with the elderly. This project is important to me because I feel whoever you are or whether or not you’re living just on your own in your old age or you’re in a retirement home you still need something happy in your life. I’m sure it gets pretty boring being in the same place all the time so I would think it's probably really uplifting when kids come in to see you and play games with you.…
