Personal Narrative: Moving Into A New School

Improved Essays
Moving into a new town, new school, and new house - which was anything but easy for a sixth grader - we desperately wanted to fit in and settle in. My sister and I wanted ourselves known to everyone. Completing the first week in our new house, we went out to a walk to the park where we could see the neighborhood kids hanging out. Of course as sixth graders we were very reckless in observing people. Without anything in mind we walked up to a girl our age and introduced ourselves, the girl introduced her as Marissa and we soon fired up a conversation. Little be known that conservation was the beginning of a toxic friendship.

Marissa had come over to our house for the first time and had met my mother. My mother welcomed her, offered her a snack and soon let us do our own thing. As I stepped into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water, my mom walked up to me and said be careful who you trust and befriend sweety, not everyone is as kind as you and Nour - my sister -. It was clear that my mother had picked up a vibe that I had not but without much though I returned back into the living room to Marissa and my sister. At the the moment the new girl had seemed as an angel in disguise. Soon, middle school started and she had introduced us to her friends and everything seemed to be going perfect until less than 4 months in the school year we get called into the principal's office for apparently bullying Marissa at the bus stop. We clearly had not done this and we were so shocked that she had come up with such a story when it seemed like we were starting to become close friends. My mom was notified of the incident and when we came home she asked us if we had done this we said no because we clearly did not. My mother said to us “well I believe you, but again be careful who you talk to and who you trust, preferably don’t hang around with Marissa again.” We disregarded my mother’s words and the next day sat with her at lunch. We were living the pre-teen dream of wanting to be popular but that Middle school “fame” came with hefty price. The next three years of middle school were filled similar scenarios and much bickering with Marissa and sometimes giggling together. Eighth grade year we opened our eyes and realized that this was not a healthy friendship, we cut off Marissa but the termination of this friendship was not easy and had effects

In reality, my sister and I were anything but the ideal freshmen. We ditched school, hung out with the wrong people and wasted time repeating the same middle school of of popularity. Nour and I became acquainted with people who knew Marissa and while my sister and I thought we had long terminated that friendship, we thought wrong because we could slowly start seeing the effects of that toxic friendship leak into our freshmen and sophomore years of high school. Although the middle school trouble consisted of small warnings by the principal and major lies by Marissa, high school trouble that was a result of the disastrous friendship resulted in fist fights, suspensions and the failing of classes. Marissa’s constant drama, rumors and elaborate lies led to fights between multiple

One day we were talking at lunch and a girl came up to us and started talking to us about herself and how discourteous her friends were to her, of course we told her that she could hang out with us. All three of us had the same class and became best friends quickly, after that I made some friends and I had the best school year of my life. The 6th grader that sat next to me was Destiny who, after 6th grade, went to Somerset but to this day we are still best friends. The girl who came up to us was Yesenia, who, after 6th grade, stayed being my best friend, all throughout middle school and was the only true friend I had all those years, she is still the best friend that I will ever have. I started that school year terrified, sad, and angry with my mom for making me move away from my friends, I’m fortuitous that I move or I wouldn't have met my two best friends that I consider family.…

Bruises hurt. Growing up with the uncomfortable yellow-green of an old battle wound sustained from being an adventurous kid wasn't much of a surprise. The off-shade violet of a deep one, or the angry red of an underdeveloped one, on the other hand, is a more recent discovery. Receiving them daily has become a required hindrance when being chased by your neighbor's sex crazed Pit bull. I could have gotten a car to avoid him --my town is small and my mother never thought I needed one--…

The more I thought of the idea of moving the more fear I had, I thought to myself “how are you going to make it on your own, how am I going to enroll for school full time and manage a full time job”? Just thinking of the responsivities I was heading towards freaked me out. Becoming an adult was no joke nor it was going to be fun, wishing to grow up to have more freedom didn’t seem must of a freedom. I ended up going the easy way and enrolled in a community college where I could do general basics without having to move and spending less money in college. With what an average student would take to complete general basics in two year, it has taken me three.…

“After we moved into an integrated school, everything changed in a big way. We were, it seems on reflection very poor, but I did not feel it at the time. I think that was because of Mama.” Ed’s mom worked very hard, maybe even harder than his dad to make sure her family always had food on their plates, and to make sure her kids were as happy as could be. “Daddy worked hard and had to because as a black man, nothing came easy.”…

Not everybody will like you—it’s a statement I've always heard, understood and accepted. What I didn't realized until fairly recently in my life, is that some people take this to the next level. Some people will hate you for reasons seemingly unknown or unreasonable to you. It all started with the rehearsals of the 2015 school spring musical of The Addams Family that my friend, we'll just refer to him as Pugsley, myself and a couple other friends, were met with the presence of a then junior, who we'll refer to as, Katrina.…

Throughout my life I’ve known plenty of people, and quite a few of them ended up being rather toxic. This particular debacle began over vacation on the cusp of autumn. My sister and two of our friends were together on a trip to Newport, Rhode Island, and on the two hour car ride there, one friend, I’ll call her A (I don’t want to use any names), threatened to reveal a long-time secret kept between her and another of my friends who was also my boyfriend, J, which had the codename of “Muskrat.” I was very eager to figure out what exactly was going on, and had been since I first heard about Muskrat two or three months prior. I knew it had to do with J and I, but I wasn’t sure quite what.…

“I will not let my days slip away, I will stand up on to feet, and I’ll be complete.” ~Blixemi It all started when I was in second or third grade. I always seemed different and off from most girls and had a lot of friends that were female, which was normal in elementary, to have same-gender friends. Though I had so many friends to play with, I always seemed to wander to where the boys hung out. Usually, I would mess around with my younger brother’s friends.…

Vivian Dang; the most down-to-earth person I ever knew during my first year of attending college. Looking back this past year, we have become really good friends that cared about each other. She had a burning passion to inspire others and had a daredevil personality to match the intense fire in her heart. She is as selfless as she is destructive—two descriptions that usually does not flow together, but there are no other words to describe her. On one occasion, I would notice that from time to time, Vivian would check up on me and all our friends, amidst the bad blood and drama that boils within our group of friends.…

Skimming through the school supplies, another school year about to start. I rummaged through the notebooks as the aside fills up with equally as anxious students with their parents. As I politely waited for a family to make their way to the end of the aisle, allowing me to take a closer look at the binders, I spotted an old friend. Vanessa, was a friend I knew I could always rely on these past few years, but all that felt like an ancient memory. We hadn’t spoken in almost a year.…
