Memoir
When we got him, he was already fully grown, maybe two or three, I don't exactly remember. It was my grandpa who got him for us, knowing my sister and I were desperate for a dog. His owners had already named him Noble and we didn't want to change the name. He was a medium sized male German Shepherd. Whom my sister and I adored. I was five, turning six in almost four months. I don't remember much about what he looked like or how he behaved, but he was quite tolerable of my four years old sister. Let me skip to the part that I do remember.

The bushes by the sidewalk were just pushing out their first red and white blooms. I walked slowly up the sidewalk to the green storm door. My dad opened it for me, and let me inside.
Inside I walked up the stairs and put my backpack at the top. My sister and my mom were already on the couch. I felt a hollow feeling inside of me.
“Where is Noble?” I asked them, dreading the answer.
“He got hit by a car.” Mom broke the news. The tears started flowing down my cheeks and my sisters.
“Aunt Wendy and I let the dogs play together and we went inside for a few minutes. Then Charlie jumped the fence and Noble followed him. Noble crossed the street and was hit by the car. Charlie was also hit, but he only broke his leg.” My mom continued as my sister, Jaya, and I continued sobbing.
“Do you want to see him one last time?” My dad asked gently.
I nodded, unable to speak through my tears. It felt like I was crying more than the ocean could hold. Jaya shook her head no. They led me outside to the Highlander, our other car and there he was lying in the trunk. His eyes were closed and he was completely still. It was amazing that I still had tears left to
