For public school, since freshman year, I had set my eyes on becoming woodwind captain for my school, J.P. Taravella, and making the all county jazz band. Through over 230 hours of marching band, and countless more hours improving saxophone, I had finally achieved both goals and continued to improve on my craft. The first week of being at this academy tested my pride, integrity, and mental strength in ways I thought weren't possible. Being one of the worst pianists here due to my lack of experience eroded me from the inside, and many times throughout the course of this experience, I felt like quitting. Self loathing ensued, and the words of my teacher kept me wanting to triumph, even under harsh circumstances. I know see the progress I have made by always trying my hardest and not thinking about what others may say if I fail in the progress.
